Ebay Dresses...to buy or not to buy...

Mitzi50, 28 May, 2009 at 15:18 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hiya!

I have been looking at wedding dresses and totally fell in love with a particular dress, which is in the bridal salon for £1200 (ouch) but I have found it on ebay, brand new and made to measure, from china for about £80.00!!! Big difference! Has any one bought a dress on ebay or know anyone that has? It does say that if you dont like the dress you can return with in 14 days and get a money back garuntee...sounds to good to be true!

I don't personally know of anybody who has done this. It can either be brilliant, or totally crap eh? I did think about ordering my Maggie dress from USA for just over half the price but decided against it due to internet horror stories. I'd have spent the 4 months worrying myself to death! I'd say go for it if you have plenty of time to see the china one, and if it isnt' what you wanted give yourself 6 months or so to get one ordered from the shop. Failing that, are there any second hand ones in the UK on ebay or other wedding dress sites?

    Good luck in your search.

I've not ordered one from China myself, however, be warned they are replicas and do not have anywhere near the same quality of material or internal structure and corestry (sp?) as the real thing would have.

If you have plenty of time and can afford to lose £80 if it's nto good enough then go for it, otherwise I second the above poster, try second hand or ex-display. Also try shopping around within bridal shops, I tried on the same dress in 2 shops and there was a £300 price difference between them.

I'd certainly give it a whirl for £80, you'll find with these dress makers that you either love 'em or hate 'em. Milly Bridal have some excellent feedback and I've seen pictures of a couple of their dresses from B2B's and TBH I would say they were good enough!

As I said, if you can afford it and have the time...go for it, you can always sell it on later.

My dress is a mori lee copy from a company in China. Due to our tiny budget, i couldn't afford the real one so i opted for this one instead and i can honestly say that i was delighted with it! It looks exactly the same as the Mori Lee dress! The quality of the dress is great, the fabric feels lovely, the communication by the seller was great, she let me knoe what was going on with the dress every few days via email! I couldn't have asked for better really! The only negative thing was the bust measurement of my dress was way too big, so i've had to take it to a dress maker to have it altered which has cost me another £50, but i don't mind since the dress was so cheap anyway! Hope this helps! ?

Hey Moya50, I bought mine from Landy Bridal, (see my thread on about page 6, re. my dress arrived for pics) and I was thrilled with it. It's a copy of a Maggie Sottero. There are some slight differences, but I cannot believe the quality and how good it looks for the money! I too will have to get mine taken in a bit, but I was expecting that anyway, and it's better than it being too small! Go for it, and I hope you love it!

I seen these dresses too on ebay, and some of them look absolutely lovely. What worries me a bit of course is the difference and the fun of going through the dress shops and trying them on. On the other hand it is a great bargain, the money one saves can be invested in something else. Please keep us posted how you get on, would really like to know as I still have over a year left so might give it a whirl as well.

To cut a long long story short I bough a dress for £100 on ebay from a shop calld Landybridal.STAY AWAY!!! the dress looked nothing like the picture and the stiching was apalling. The dress that was ordered should have been a size 14 but fitted my size 8/10 sister. I was also charged from the courier after paying the comp shipping charges. They refused to reply to any of my calls.emails.... alot of hassel you can do without.

I was just looking at Landbridal for my BM dresses as I posted a link without looking here first.

Hmmm that has put a dampner on my thoughts as they look lovely in the pics!
