eBay - Negative feedback no longer allowed

KB3, 3 June, 2008 at 09:55 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 18

"Buyers are no longer allowed to recieve negative or neutral feedback from sellers"

WTF? Why not? So a buyer can bid, win and then mess you about and not want the item but there is nothing you can do about it. Seems a bit stupid to me. Am I missing something? Is there something a seller can do?

I think maybe the only option to a seller is to put on the bidding page a note to say that buyers with bad feedback will be deleted from the sale IYSWIM

Which is exactly what happened to me last week. I have no comeback whatsoever, it's utterly fucking ridiculous. You can now be the worst buyer in the world, but have a guaranteed 100% feedback and neg sellers with impunity.

I had one bidder last week, who's last 5 feedbacks left for others were negs, all since the new rule came in ?

I found out about this a few weeks ago, when a buyer said they would pay by cheque, and nothing ever came, no correspondance etc. I got a final calue fee credit from ebay, but I just had to leave a negative comment in the form of a positive feedback symbol.

I am worried I am going to get done over by this rule again, as my buyer lives in ROI and I had stated UK only for postage. Luckily I am going to ROI this week, and as it is only small I will post over there, but if he leaves me negative feedback because of his mistake, and I can't leave negative feedback for him, I will not be impressed.

But it's not just about negative buyers. A guy with 100% feedback, all positive, bid and won an item I had for sale last week. He has now changed his mind and doesn't want them. Where does that leave me? Yes I can go through the procedure of ebay but I'd like to leave negative feedback saying he is a messer but I can't.

I like the idea of doing a positive sign but leaving negative text. Might be the only way to do it now....

It winds me up that so many people don't get that bidding on an item is a binding contract, they can't just change their minds. Gah, I almost want to take people to court to make them buy the things ?

I know! It's like they are bored one night and fancy bidding on some car seat when they may not even own a friggin car! God it makes me mad. The buyer has recieved a shitty email from me. I wonder if he leaves me negative feedback I get a chance to respond? hmmmm

This happened to h2b. He sold someone something, they had it for over a month before they left feedback and then had the cheek to turn round and say it didnt work. They had over a month to tell us. So rather than leave feedback we responded to the negative feedback they left for us.

Ah I see, that's a PITA. Did you have a second high bidder?

I've already told the story of the girl bidding on 3 pairs of MissSun's shoes. The only actual pair she wanted she didn't win and tried to get out of having the other two pairs. I was quite rude to her but she'd p1ssed me off. Luckily she paid and left good feedback.

They have been offered to second highest bidder but he hasn't been in touch. We'll just relist but as you say it's a royal PITA.

But then you'll have to pay another fee for re-listing which doesn't seem fair. Or is there an option to let fleabay know the buyer didn't pay up so you don't have to pay IYSWIM?

If you can't leave accurate feedback, what's the point of having it at all? The idea behind it was to create a view of what people were like to do transactiosn with - if you can't warn other people about bad behaviour, what guidance do you have about whether people are trustworthy?

I dealt with a guy in Canada once, he was a PITA. My only neg is from him, and it was reaction to the feedback I left for him; yet I don't regret it, and would do it again. He didn't want to pay the shipping on the toys he bought, made a big song & dance about how he was going to have to have a yard sale to get the money when I said I would start a dispute. I then split the toys into 3 separate boxes so they could be sent "small packets" and he asked me to send them ground mail, so I did. Then he bit ched about how long they took to arrive.

just reporting someone as a non-performing bidder isn't enough, as those actions are not public - feedback is. I won't be selling on eb@y again.

This is a ridiculous idea. If they wanted to make feedback fairer and stop the 'holding to ransom' which does go on sometimes, then they should make it a double blind system, so you can't see feedback left for you until you've left yours, and it doesn't appear until both parties have done so (or within a specific amount of time).

I have really went of Ebay lately. I think that their fees are too expensive and the whole place annoys me, that is just another thing to add to the list

I agree, unless you're selling an item worth a fair amount it's just not worth the bother and the hassle.

You can alter your buyer requirements so for example those with unpaid item strikes against them cannot bid on your auctions.

    There are details here:
