E*bay question - do you think it is my error or the seller's?

crystal-k, 12 June, 2009 at 13:45 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

I was searching for a freestanding bathroom cabinet so I ticked the box on the left hand side of the E*bay page that said "freestanding" as lots of items were coming up as "to fix to wall".

This seemed to filter out the wall cabinets and I found one which looked perfect and measurements were exactly what I was after (relatively small).

Cabinet arrives today and is "fix to wall". H reckons if we try to use it as freestanding it will tip over every time we open the cupboard.

Annoyed, so I checked the item description. It doesn't say freestanding nor fix to wall. However the last bullet point does say "Built in hanging brackets on the back of the cabinet".

Do you think I can contact the seller and say I am not happy as the item description did not say it needed to be fixed to a wall? Also would the seller need to select the "freestanding" category for it to be included in my search?

    It sounds like an error on both parts;

    a) they shouldn't have put it in freestanding - perhaps it means something different to them e.g. doesn't attach to another cabinet?

    b) you should have read the description more thoroughly, if you weren't sure you should have posted a question about the brackets.

    You could email them and tell them what's happened and see if they will refund you but remember b).

    When you go onto the advert, at the top just above the item title it should show what item category the seller placed the listing under. If it says freestanding then you should have a case of item not as described.

    If it did not say freestanding and mentions hanging brackets in the listing then I think it's your error. You should have checked that it was fit fo the purpose you wanted it for.

    Would you be able to fix some feet/legs to the bottom to make it a freestanding unit?

    FFS. A major error on my part.

    Listed in category: Home & Garden > Bathroom > Cabinets > Wall-Mounted Cabinets

    I must have ticked the wrong box or come out of the filtered search.

    A lesson learned. H is not going to be pleased.

    Thanks for the replies.
