Been there, done that, got the goth t-shirt. ? Washing it in Head and Shoulders fades it faster than other shampoos, I have found. Good luck.

It goes without saying, I hope, not to choose the H&S designed for colour-treated hair? ?

    Good morning.

Head and shoulders will fade it, but not dramatically by next Tuesday.

I would go with your friends offer and let her add some highlights, as bleach is the only thing to make it lighter, you can't lighten it with a lighter hair colour.

So long as your hair is in reasonable condition, it'll be ok, it won't drop out or anything! ?

I'd personally avoid the highlights if at all possible, esp. with bleach.

Why would you avoid them Sunset?

Because i've been there and done that and they're high maintenance IMHO and you also need someone to do them that is really good and knows what they're doing. If she's already unhappy with her hair things could go from bad to worse if she's not careful. I'd just be more inclined to live with what she's got. Is it permanent or semi btw?

But if her hair is naturally lighter than the colour she has on now, her regrowth shouldn't be too obvious if she has some highlights.

I do colour with bleach highlights all the time, especially on clients whose hair is too short for foils, and I'd certainly recommend it.

I've had my hair coloured too dark before - the most memorable time was a week before my wedding, and if it wasn't for a full head of bleach highlights, I too would have looked like Morticia in all of my wedding photos!

Before you bleach it, try washing it with Fairy or similar (then normal shampoo). I'm sure Fairy is good for stripping excess colour out.

WSS about using bleach. Bleach doesn't have to be really light blonde, that's the beauty of it.

To the OP, I don't know what colours your friend uses but Matrix Colour Graphics is excellent for this type of job. I'd get the highlights if you're really unhappy with it.

    Noooooooooooooo!!!

Step away from the fairy (unless you want your hair to resemble straw of course)

    My goodness me.

I knew somebody would say that about the Fairy?.

I have used it before without ending up with a hay head (normal shampoo and conditioner afterwards are a must obviously) but given how unhappy you are with your hair now it may be better not to try it.

I'm no hairdresser I'd step away from the highlights, you could end up looking like a Badger.

    What has she done differently?
