Effing WEATHER!

Panjita, 25 May, 2011 at 13:16 Posted on Planning 0 23

Where is this heatwave I was promised? Looks like it's going to rain on Sunday now and I can't help but feel REALLY down about it. I really wanted our ceremony to be outside.

OM's - if it rained on your wedding day, did it affect your day?

I had a brolly, i wasn't going to be out in it for long and, most importantly, there's absolutely nothing I could do to influence it so it wasn't worth me worrying about. I was lucky in that it cleared up for most of the day but I reconciled myself with the weather long before that.

Don't let something as trivial and outside of your control spoil your day.

If we had rain and it was heavy rain just 2 things would bother me, 1 - we would be unable to use the beautiful gardens for photos at our ceremony venue and 2 - I would worry about the bottom of my dress and train looking wet and dirty! Other than that I'm not worried as long as we have our dream day Smiley smile

Hi Panj, I am a BM at a wedding this weekend and had noticed. What I will say is that weather forecasts this far in advance are unreliable. I only trust them a day ahead as they are so changable (I love camping and am a bit obsessive over weather as I am a fair weather camper).

    A) It might not rain

    B) If it does it prob won't be all day

    C) Even if it does rain all day, nothing will put a crimp on your special day. Get some funky umbrellas and have some cool brolly shots- work it!

Another thing - your dress will be absolutely filthy by the end of the day even if you get beautiful sunshine. If it's raining heavily, it might end up cleaner as you won't be dragging through all and sundry like I did.

Plan for crap weather - everything else is a bonus. That's my motto for the day.

At least I've gone for a tea length dress so don't have to worry about puddles! Although knowing me and my clumsiness, I'll fall arse over tit into one anyway.

Not sure if you were around when the Hitcher called Drifter got married and then did her report, but by the sounds of it, she had rain but had an awesome day, fantastic pictures in her wellies! ?

ETA (posted too soon): Hope that helps you think a bit more positive about it.

You may not get the outdoor ceremony if it does rain heavily, but I think you just have to focus on the fact that it won't change anything - you'll still be married by the end of the day.

I feel sorry for the marquee chaps down the road that were erecting a marquee a couple of days ago in all that wind!

You need a plan for rain. Be determined to enjoy the day and you will

Although I will obviously defer to the knowledge of the OMs, and I think on the day it really will not matter, I can sympathise with you Panjita. My wedding is further away from yours (18th June) and I have been obsessively checking the long-range weather forecast on Metcheck.com since last Saturday! Currently says 1.9mm of rain at 1pm (NOOOO!). At the risk of sounding really stupid, I have no idea how much rain 1.9mm is... is that like a light drizzle, or actually quite heavy?!

I guess I shouldn't mind too much if it rains, since most of our day is indoors, but the one photo I really want is one to match my parents' wedding photo (they got married at the same place). If it rains, we can't have this. And that will upset me.

We had sunshine at my wedding and my dress STILL got filthy! It'll happen regardless so don't worry about that. And rainy weather wedding photos are just beautiful, they make everything look so dramatic and always makes me think of a Brontë novel for some reason.

I know what you mean Panjita, ours is supposed to be in the gardens, really hope our weather is ok too! It might get better tho, get all the rain out the way just in time for your day to be sunny! Altho no matter what the weather is like, it will be lovely.

Yeah I think I just had this image of parading down the street in all my finery on a crisp summers day to the big old bus which will take us to the venue. In my mind I see the wedding outside and even though I have tried to be realistic, even now, when it's looking pretty certain it will be inside, my head still sees it outside!? Then there is a walk from the ceremony to the reception room which if it rains, would not be nice.

Like you all said, there's nowt can be done about it and I will still be marrying my gorgeous man in front of all our friends and family so I'm gonna stop stressing about it now.

Thanks for all your words of wisdom.

We get married next Friday (3rd). We want an outdoor wedding but if it rains the ceremony room inside is beautiful but would we would prefer outside. Also the wedding breakfast is in the same room and I cant picture everyone squashed into the hotel bar whilst they set up the room for the meal. Where do you get the clear umbrellas from? (Just incase!!)

I hope it clears up for your big day! However, I would definitely go get some funky brollies and wellies for your bridal party just in case. As another poster said, it could lead to some really fun shots!

We're getting married in Blackpool, where the weather is never guaranteed, so we'll be getting umbrellas and wellies to match our colour scheme just incase. I'm hoping that by being so prepared that it won't rain! I hate wasting money, but that'll be the best 'sods law' ever!!!

Hope you have a wonderful day regardless of the weather!!!!

I got married 26th June 2004, so was kind of expecting that we would have nice weather - WRONG!! It absolutely poured down on our day.

I was GUTTED when I woke up that day & saw all the rain but what could I do?

It did not however spoil my day, we managed to grab a bit of time to get some pics taken outside inbetween the showers. We had such an amazing day & I was just so happy to be marrying the man of my dreams & spending time with all my lovely friends & family, that we never rally noticed the rain in the end.

The next day we had "brunch" at my parents with a few guests/family & it was a hot sunny day - sods law eh.

Dont let it spoil your day, you will have such an amazing time.

    Debbie

I had a scorcher of a day and my dress got filthy still. It's dragging over all kinds of floors and outside so it'll get dirty no matter what the weather.

You can get some lovely brolly's and have brilliant photos in rain or sun. Honestly, it's out of your control so forget it. What will be will be.

    Panjita

I can happily say rain will not spoil your wedding day one bit. Having a wet day turned out to be brillent for us so much so I even titled my wedding report on here my wonderful wet wedding.

It was torrential rain with added wind when I got married and it was still fantastic, get some suitable footwear and a brolly and it will be fine.

Don't worry about the dress I have to say mine is far cleaner than I expected it to be and definately cleaner than some others I have seen.

You can't control the weather so just wait an dsee what you get when you wake up for it as long as your prepaired for fair or foul it won't impact on your day one bit.

if it helps this is how wet it was

this is how happy I was

I always said since i was a little girl that if it rained on my wedding day i would cancel. Obviously i am now in the real world! Like the others have said, the only thing that it will spoil for me is that i can't have my photographs taken outside. But you can't control the weather so you have to accept that if it does rain are you going to let it completely spoil your day or just ignore it and enjoy your fabulous wedding day. Fingers crossed though that the rain stays away.
