AprilBride2B, 6 July, 2012 at 23:13 Posted on Planning 0 8

My H2B has his heart set on going to Egypt for our honeymoon but has decided all the rest of the planning is down to me! I just wondered if anyone has been and has any good recommendations? We would like the best of both worlds really, somewhere really beautiful and memorable that wont completely break the bank!!

We went to eygpt last year, it was fab, can't remember how much it cost though, think it was around 1800 each, we went to luxor for 5 days then we went on a nile cruise which was lovely, you got to see lots of places that way, then went to giza for two days to see the pyramids. plenty to see and do if you like seeing the sights

We went to Sharm El Sheik in November and had an absolutely wonderful holiday. We did an all inclusive deal at The Radisson Blu Resort which cost around £700 each including transfers, tax's and travel insurance etc.

The hotel offered a number of really good excursions including a day out snorkelling and diving on a boat (brilliant!), a night star gazing in a bedouin village complete with a camel ride, traditional old tents, dancing and food (awesome), quad biking, trips to the old town to go shopping. These trips cost around £25 - £30 each but they are well worth it. There is a thriving ibiza style club scene at one end of sharm - check out Pacha. That end of town has loads of bars and clubs so if you want to party, it is bang on. The Radisson was a taxi ride away from party town so we had a tranquil, gorgeous holiday and headed for the noise when we felt like it.

A few notes about Radisson Blu. The gardens are absolutely stunning and the customer service is absolutely fantastic. The food and drink are very good, expecially if you go all inc. The only thing I would say is that it is rated as a four star but I would say that the room we stayed in was 3 star by our standard - however, it was spotlessly clean and everything worked brilliantly (AC, fridge etc) and really, we just used the room as a crash pad so having a luxurious room didn't bother us. The gardens and four swimming pool areas more than made up for it (they also have an on site spa which is lovely). They do have posher suites but if you are going to upgrade, you may as well go to the Four Seasons Resort which is really special. The Radisson also has its own private beach and you can snorkel off the promenade which is awesome. If you decide to go there, ask for a pool side room rather than a beach view room because the gardens are way prettier than the beach - here is a pic of the view from our balcony. Oh yeah - get a ground floor room and you can walk straight out to the pool.

General notes - The Egyptians absolutely love the English because we are polite and like to have a chat with them and get to know them a bit. There is also a lot of Russians and a few other UAE nations that go out there who are really rude and treat them like second class citizens. Us and the other English guys out there got to know the staff and we ended up having the best tables reserved in the bar and restaurants, and the best sunbeds reserved by the pool!! This was really funny because at busy times in the restaurant there was sometimes a small queue, but we always got called through to the restaurant by the staff and led to a reserved table! Being friendly definitely pays off in Sharm!!

Have a look on the Tripadvisor reviews for Sharm

    https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotels-g297555-Sharm_El_Sheikh_South_Sinai_Red_Sea_and_Sinai-Hotels.html

You'll get an idea of where is good (and where isn't) and they indicate prices too.

Make sure you look at traveller photos as they always give a good idea of stuff.

    Hi,

We had a holiday at Sunrise Royal in Makadi Bay in Hurghada and we really loved it. We went in December but it was reasonable - about £600 each AL I think. If you book through Thomas Cook you can eat at the al Carte every night so you feel a bit more pampered than eating at a buffet every night. There are loads of reviews in trip advisor and tips in hints about the hotel too.

Hurghada is quieter than Sharm, but still has trips and things you'd expect.

    Hope this helps ?

    Hey,

We're going to Sensatori Sharm El Sheik in 4 weeks - for our summer holidays. We booked it last year, before we got engaged. We've paid just shy of 1300 each, that includes all inclusive, 10 days with a swim up room. I'm sooo excited as we don't normally spend that much on just a summer hol!

For our honeymoon, we've struggled to choose as we've been to many ace places before. So, we've gone for Sorrento, Italy for 7 days, all inclusive. This has come out about £1700 in total, which suited our budget for our honeymoon. It's also very secluded and adults only.

I think it's worth considering whether there will be LOTS of honeymooner, as then you're just another number. This is what our travel agent told us, Sensatori get ALOT of honeymooners as it is luxurious, but if you prefer to be a minority it might be worth either going something more wowzers or a different location.

PS: I shall report back on our return!
