Electronic Cigarette - Is it good?

NightOwl, 16 April, 2009 at 22:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

H and I are trying to quit smoking and have read good things about the E-cig. Has anyone here tried it?

http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.co.uk/index.asp

"The Electronic Cigarette works in the following way: the user inhales on the electronic cigarette, this causes an air flow sensor to signal to the inbuilt microprocessor, that in turn activates the atomizer. The atomizer converts the liquid nicotine in the cartridge into a vapour (by atomization), which is digested by the user. Simultaneously, a water based vapour is released from the glycol by the atomizer to resemble ‘smoke’. This ‘smoke’ has no risk to its user or persons around them."

Think it might just keep you hooked....have you read Easy Way by Allen Carr? Pretty bloody effective I have to say!

Some of my colleagues use them, I'm not (and have never been) a smoker but I was impressed!

I'm not convinced it actually helps you give up smoking as you're still getting the nicotine hit. My colleague says that the nicotine hit is greater with the e-cigs as it's almost 'pure' nicotine (i.e. not 'diluted' by all the other chemicals you get in fags). He has noticed an improvement in his lung health since using them though. And you can use them in places where smoking is banned, apparently.

I bought one for my H at Christmas after people at work started getting them and using in the office and in the pub after work. It won't help wean you off smoking as it delivers the same nicotine fix, but it doesn't contain the tar a normal cigarette does so is allegedly marginally better for you. Personally I would rather he just kicked the habit but it obviously has to be his decision.

    Thanks both!

To be honest I love smoking and think this might be the only way I will be able to cut down...and I also like the idea of being able to "smoke" in pubs and restaurants again..oh, and at gigs! Also if I didn't smoke I would never leave my desk at work, so I’m thinking this would still make me go outside and take that 5 minute break twice a day.

God, I’m full of excuses for not properly quitting smoking, it’s a disgrace! ?

Ps I tried the Allen Carr book, did nothing for me.
