I have phoned an ambulance once, for an old fella collapsed on the street - turns out he was 'ammered. Also phoned the police once to report kids throwing fireworks at people passing by - they didn't seem that bothered.

No but I've always wanted to for some strange reason!

I did call 999 by accident when I was a baby.

Yeah, Chrimbo Eve a few years back. M&D's friend fell and cracked his head in the street and went unconscious (he's well in his 70's). I was the least pissed out of everyone so rang for an ambulance.

I also saw a child that had been knocked down and rang an ambo for him too. I didn't actually see what happened, just that he was lying in the gutter with blood coming out of his head.

I've dialled it for the ambulance, H was away on a stag do and my nephew had come down to stay he was only 8 at the time, I first noticed his temperature which was through the roof, he was hallucinating and couldnt bare to look at the light and then started projectile vomitting, I just freaked out, when the ambulance arrived they told me I had done the right thing and he was rushed to hospital, 8 hours later he was fine, he had gastroenteritis. I was on my own his mum was 200 miles away and I remember sobbing when I knew he was going to be ok.

Nope, but I've been in an ambulance!

I had a go karting accident and seriously jarred my back. I couldn't walk cos I was so winded and it hurt to breathe, so I had to go to hospital! I was put in a neck brace and onto a stretcher and everything. I was crying so much cos I didn't want to go, haha!

I was fine, nothing broken just massively bruised, thank god. Never been in a go kart since!

    Fire Brigade -

I first called them when I was 14. As we were passing my best friend's (At the time) house in the car, I noticed all the windows were blackened and smoky. Screamed at Dad to stop the car, jumped out and realised it was definitely on fire, went round the back to try and see if anybody was in there. I knew where their spare key was kept so found that and tried to get in but couldn't get it to work in the panic, so me and my Dad ended up kicking down the back door and rescuing their two dogs. Thankfully my friend and her parents were out. I found it so frustrating that they wanted me to repeat my mobile number before they'd put the call out, I was just shouting at them to get the engines down there. The next call I made was to my friend to tell her to get home ASAP, her house is on fire.. That wasn't nice!

About 4 years ago, the building I lived in was on fire. It was the floor above but spreading fast. The couple who lived in the apartment above decided they would just leave the building without knocking on any of the other doors (There were only 2 more apartments so hardly difficult to get everyone out!) to get us out or call a fire brigade(!!!) The alarm was sounding but I thought it was my neighbours burnt cooking as it usually was. I've never been so terrified when I went out into the landing and saw all the smoke, called 999 and was told to get out of the building.. Erm, no chance, I had cats, mice, rats, snakes and lizards to try and help first! I only managed to get my cats out and locked in my car before the fire engine arrived and they wouldn't let me back in. Scary! Turns out the couple were completely bladdered and had fallen asleep with a cigarette!!

    Ambulance -

Came across a guy face down in a puddle of blood one night, I drove past and was like WTF! Recognised him to be a friend's Uncle and called an ambulance. They knew him by name as soon as they saw him.. He was a local piss head apaparently, always drunk and hurting himself.

While at work one day (I'm a Nanny) one of the children ran and slipped, split her head open on the corner of an internal brick wall. Blood was absolutely pouring out so I stemmed the bleeding as much as I could and decided the best thing I could do was call for an ambulance as she was only 1 and I had her two x one year old Sister's too and it was just not possible to get them all to A&E.

    Police -

My windows got bricked a few years ago so had to call them. I was only 22, living alone, just had windows bricked on two sides of my house while I was in that room and it took them 4 hours to get to me!

Got broken into via my cellar while I was in the house, so called them.

I'm sure there are more occasions that I can't think of..

I have called the police a few times. I have called the police on a very close family member during a drunken brawl. I've also called them when I got home after work one evening to find my front door was damaged, I couldn't get the key in the lock as it had been smashed in. Somebody had tried to break in during the middle of the day but luckily they couldn't get through the door. My neighbour came round and said 'Oh I thought something funny had gone on, so I put a note through your door'....

I called an ambulance and police when a young girl was run over on a zebra crossing and the driver sped off.

*Touches wood* I don't think I have ever had to call the fire brigade.

Ive called the Police numerous times (used to live in a bit of a ropey area) and also called an ambulance twice. Once for ex's mom who'd put her hand through a glass door (as i was the only one not going hysterical at the spurting blood) and also recently for a bloke who was having a fit in the street. I always amaze myself how calm i actually am when i really do hate the sight of blood or anything remotely "odd" happening to people.

I haven't had to. I believe my mum and dad have a couple of times, the latest being last year, when they had a brick thrown at the front window and just missed my mum by inches - her chair is just underneath the window.
    Mindless yobs.

Also, I'm very proud to say that my eldest sister is a Paramedic. I'm so proud of her. Never thought she would be able to do this sort of thing, she used to be sick at the sight of blood when we were kids. She really loves her job. I have to say she is a stronger person than I.

Called police once, not an emergency as such but when H's ex-wife decided to smack me in the face for no reason it was only fair that I pressed charges!

Yes. Not last Sunday but the Sunday before. My 4 year old son woke up with a horrendous hoarse cough and breathing difficulties. He was really distressed and told me he couldn't breathe, each breath was a huge effort for him and his chest was sucking right in each time he inhaled. We called NHS direct who sent an ambulance within minutes. Paramedics took one look at him and we were blue-lighted to Alder Hey children's hospital. Turns out it was severe croup which was inflaming his airways, very common this time of year, and he was given steroids. He was fine within half an hour of getting the treatment. All the staff; paramedics, doctors, nurses etc were absolutely fantastic and I will not hear a bad word said against our NHS.

Ambulance - my dad collasped when I was 9 and I was home on my own with him. I just remember screaming as I had no idea what was going on. I don't think I've ever run down the stairsso quickly to get to the phone. I called my neighbour too who had literally just got out of the shower and came over dripping when she heard my crying down the phone. I'll always be thankful to her and her husband who looked after us that day and just took over.

Also called one a couple of years back when my nephew grabbed a brand new mug of tea and it went all down his torso. It didn't even have milk in it so was incredibly hot. I was upstairs, heard screaming, then saw my sister in law run to the bathroom and stick him under the shower. He hasn't been left with any scars but did have to have burn treatment.

Fire brigade - driving home from work one day and saw a car dumped in a car park that was never used on fire.

Ambulance - found my son who was then approx 8 months with a nappy fully of blood. I didn't know what to do and panicked! Phoned 999 and they were there within minutes. Luckily it was "only" kidney stones (a massive staghorn calculus that was half the size of his left kidney and growing into the sides) and not cancer like the nurse at the hospital told me (apparently she wanted to prepare me for the worst).

They told my best friend she had stage 3 cervical cancer. After weeks of stress, tears & worry, they turned around and said "Oh actually, you haven't. We got your results wrong."

Not ideal, to say the least. But your friend is lucky to have the opportunity to be screened. And this type of mix up is far better than the opposite one. Far better to have this screening programme (accompanied by the infrequent mixups) than to not have a screening programme. I hope your friend hasn't been put off.

Oh, my mam had to call the fire brigade as I got locked in my bedroom aged 5 due to a dodgy door handle. She was a single mam and didn't have a hope in hell of kicking the door down.

I really needed a wee too. Plus, we didn't have a phone as we'd just moved in so she had to knock on the neighbours doors.

I got to sit in the fire engine in my dressing gown. It was ace.

I've phoned the non emergency police a few times for various bits and bobs.

I know they make errors, but I can't understand why it took them so long to rectify their mistake. Smiley sad

Maybe it's just my local hospital, as opposed to the NHS. They all seem pretty incompetent here.

I have had an ambulance called for me, when I fell down the stairs and broke my coccyx at 3am New Years Day...

I called the police once when we had reports that there was a man in the car park at work with a gun. It took them 6 hours to arrive and the man was gone. As it turns out it was Rentokill shooting pigeons but I wasn't about to go up there to find out!!

I accidently called the police when in my mums office at work when I was little and "playing" with the phone... ?

My mum had to call the fire brigade when I was little and got stuck in the lift in Safeway.

I have called the police, when I was a student, when some people tried to kick our house door in. We had no idea why or what was going on, but there was just me and another girl there at the time and we were scared to death.

Nobody came to help us, and the call and incident wasn't even on the log or any records when we went to the station to ask about it.

Yes unfortunately human error does occur and more often than anybody would want. But still, where would we all be without the NHS? I know without free at the point of care medical intervention many people I know would be dead.

My friend had a baby born with Hirshprung's (SP?) disease, almost his entire intestines were usless. He spent the first year of his life in hospital and at around the age of 1 he was given a life saving liver, bowel and pancreas transplant. If my friends had lived in America they wouldn't have been covered, couldn't have afforded it (even selling their business and taking out loans) and he would have died. They were given genetic counselling once the initial shock had worn off and they've been given loads of teasts and screenings during their two subsequent pregnancies. Our NHS is one of the best institutions this country has and we should be grateful and proud.

I had to call 999 when a friend of ours got beaten up on a night out. He had a head wound, was in and out of consciousness, I was trying to keep him awake, and trying not to cry when he started talking about his glasses being broken (it reminded me too much of My Girl!). We went with him to the hospital in the ambulance, minus the sirens sadly (he was fine by then, they just wanted to check him over). We had to visit the police station to make a statement and see an identity parade, and I was imagining the one sided mirror that you see on the telly. It's all done on computers now. Who knew?

Also, Mr B called the police when a woman having a domestic asked him to. It was a 999 call agian, and they took 20 minutes to drive round the corner, which would take under 5 minutes to walk.

    Ive called the police before.

i live in a 4th floor flat and I was working from home once and from the house next door to the flats i heard a horrible argument, then it got louder so i peaked out the window and the woman was in the garden, in her coat with a couple of bags. she was in the corner and he was shouting at her, she actually tried to climb over their garden fence into our car park and he dragged her back.

she said she just wanted to leave so he said "fine, walk out the front door" she went back in the house, he followed, more shouting , then screaming, banging and then sreams for help.

to start it was just an argument that had nothing to do with me but then i got scared. i called the police and while i was on the phone to the operator, there was another scream that the operator heard!

later that afternoon they were both sat in the garden as if nothing had happened!

aparentl another neighbour had called the police on him as they were suspicious of him dealing drugs from his home. They have moved now.

I called an ambulance for myself once! I have diabetes and woke up in the night virtually paralysed with hypoglycaemia. It was the first time it had happened and I thought I would die if I didn't get some glucose. It took me nearly an hour to manage to get the phone and dial 999, then I couldn't make myself understood because I couldn't make my mouth work properly. Eventually I managed to explain and the police and ambulance were called. They then called me back and asked me to open the door. I wasn't very polite! Eventually they got the message and broke in. The paramedics were brilliant.

I have recently had to call the police on two occasions when my stepson was being violent and threatening to get him removed from the premises. The police were very helpful and understanding.

Have called the police twice - once when a car trying to overtake my school bus crashed into oncoming traffic, and once when one of my suicidal patients ran away from the hospital. ?

Accidentally called the fire brigade once - got stuck in a lift and pressed the "help" button - didn't realise that out of hours it goes straight through to 999!

Having worked in A&E, I was truly astonished at the crap that some people call 999 for.

    I have indirectly

while I was doing my PhD i worked as a residence tutor for university accomadation (essentially baby sitting students they were very spoilt at my uni) anyway we attended incidents and when ambulances were needed we radioed security to call ambulance while we delt with students

    SO all ambulances

a couple for drunk/ other wise intoxicated students

    1 for head injury

and 1 for a student that atempted to kill themselves, (that was the worst as had to do full resuscitation bit while we were waiting for the ambulance I was so glad when they took a breath on their own).

Police- whwn I lived in Winchester we were walking home from a night out and a gang of men where kicking the sh!t out of one poor bloke on the floor- we were screaming at them to stop but they wouldnt so called the police who where there in seconds it seemed and brought an ambulance with them for the one being attacked.

Ambulance- for myself! I had an accident at uni- I jumped and landed on a pirex measuring jug- in my bare feet, half of it went through my foot. Que a river of blood and 2 hysterical housemates- one tried to call an ambulance but couldnt as she was crying too much- I took the phone over and calmly gave them all my details- blue flashing lights later I was in A&E and spent the next 3 months on crutches. That foot is still bigger than the other and I have never got the feeling back in the sole of it.

    In personal life

    Ambulance,i think three times

    (1) An old man came up my path and knocked on the door and said he thought he was having a heart attack. He was German over for a holiday and walking to see a friend i think. Anyway we got him inside and called an ambulance,he was having a heart attack they thought ,strange evening.

    (2) My daughter who was one was had a bad infection and became floppy, she needed a anti b drip.

    (3) One new years eve my OH have went out for a few drinks and came back before the bells. I was about 4 weeks away from having our son and had the kids so did not go out. He started being sick and it was bright red. At first i thought it was red wine but then he said he had not had any. It was blood as his stomach ulcer had burst, very scary.

    Fire Birgade...never i don't think

Police. Once when a neighbor was being attacked by her boyfriend.

In work i have phoned the police/ambulance countless times for loads of reasons. For safety checks or confessions to something or help with sectioning people etc.
