Engagement party

Tinkers1, 15 January, 2011 at 09:31 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hiya,

Did anyone have an engagement party? We have booked ours for the end of Feb, really looking forward to it. Have a question though, did you have a table/area for cards/presents? Dont wanna be presumptuous but would rather have an area ready rather than stashing them anywhere iykwim.

Thankss, any other ideas appreciated.

xx

Were having an engagement party in April....really excited ? I'd also thought of this and come up with the decision that because were having a cake, to put any prospective cards or gifts near or under that table. It will be covered with a linen tablecloth nearly to the floor so its an ideal place to keep them.

It's difficult because a completley separate empty table would look as if you were expecting to receive gifts. This way you already have a table being used for something which won't look so presumptious of you.

    Hope this helps tinkers!

No, we didnt have a party as such, we went out for a lovely meal with family and friends. We didnt ask for gifts because we have been together a long time and have everything we need. We just asked people to pay for their meal instead.

We had an engagement party back in June. But as OHs mum hosted at her house, we didn't need to worry about having an area for gifts. I wasn't expecting any so wouldn't have thought of it, though we did get quite a few so if you're in a 'venue' it might be worth having a table set aside. Maybe even just for a postbox as you'll definitely get cards!!

We had a joint housewarming/engagement party, and maybe it sounds naive now but we really weren't expecting people to bring anything! However, we had set up a cake on our teeny dining table so just piled presents around it. This looked fine, and is what I'd suggest.

More people brought cards, and again I perhaps foolishly hadn't anticipated this and our mantelpiece was already CRAMMED with cards from relatives... so we just crammed on more hehe. (I was sad when my H2B made me take them down so we could put up the Christmas cards... we got engaged in August!)

We had our engagement party at our house. We didn't want or expect gifts as we have set up our home already. If people bought gifts we put them in another room however most people turned up with flowers and champagne or giftcards so were easy to put to one aside. Can you keep an area behind the DJ or bar so it isn't in view but can be kept safe.

I have been to a couple of engagement dos and have only ever taken a card, TBH I don't think people tend to give engagement presents, what's the point? That's what the wedding is for! Just have a space for the the cards- next to the cake would be fine. People will probably give them to you and you can put them wherever you like.
