I'd really recommend having one! As a photographer I find that couples are much more relaxed on the wedding day if they've had an engagement shoot beforehand, also, you can have a print & signature board for your guests to sign at the wedding.

Perhaps your chosen wedding photographer can provide one as part of our package?

We have had one - through winning a competition - but we are actually going ahead and booking the same photographer Smiley smile But we really enjoyed it and liked the photos from it. Every photographer I have spoken to has included it as part of their package and it's great to get to know how your photographer works so you are more relaxed on the day.

    I say go for it!

We had a pre-wedding photo shoot as part of our package too. Our photographer is known to my OH but I didn't know her at all, so it was a great opportunity to see how she worked and get to be in a position that I will hopefully totally relaxed in front of the camera.

She is also the one who recommended the venue we are using to us.....so knows it very well and exactly the locations to get the best photos come rain or shine...of course will be sunny on the day!!!!! ?

If you're someone who is hypercritical about the way they look then they're a bad idea.

I don't 'officially' do them because couples always want to do them at their convenience. Which basically mean at the weekend and that's impossible for me because of the weddings I do.

Thanks for the replies, I do have the option of a shoot with our package but was opting not to have one as I thought it would be really awkward, I'm coming round to the idea!

Our photographer does a pre-wedding shoot, Its very informal and he says he finds that couples that do it seem to be more relaxed on their day as they know him a little better and him them. He did say that previously couples had asked to do it earlier so they could use the shots as engagement photos but we've opted to wait.
