Engagement Ring - Cleaned or Replated?

2013_Bride_, 27 June, 2013 at 14:26 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi,

I have seen a few people say how they are going to have their engagement rings replated, what is this?

Mine is 18ct White Gold, and the Gold is showing through at the back of the ring now.

I had just intended to have it cleaned, but I guess the replate means its dipped back into the colour or something?

Can anyone shed any light?

Thanks

White gold needs redipping ever so often to replate it so that the yellow gold doesn't show from underneath. This is one of the reasons I went for yellow gold.

I don't think cleaning would sort your problem, would have to be redipped. ?

Yep - you won't fix white gold with cleaning.White gold needs redipping every year or two of you want to keep it looking white.

    Cool. Thanks guys.

Only had it 11 months so hoping I might be covered under the 12 month guarantee if I take it in soon!

I took mine in on Tuesday, when we bought (H Samuels) the wedding rings they said they would re dip for free otherwise it is about 30 quid I think!

She reckoned it'll be a few weeks so don't leave it too late!

Yep, mine is being done for free. Had they not offered this it would be about £30.00.

    Oh jeeze.

I have my hen weekend / night coming up - I can't be without my ring for those!

If it comes to it I'll just leave it and sort if after the wedding!

They look like brand new once dipped too ?. Love having mine done!

Just remember that it will be like that for a picture you might want your Photographer to take of your rings too.

It is odd not having it, I am wearing an old ring but it doesn't feel the same.
