Engagement Ring Insurance?

SadieButterfly, 17 February, 2012 at 22:10 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

Hello everyone,

Can anyone recommend a company where i can insure my engagement ring? I don't think the jewellers we bought from offered insurance.

Thanks in advance.

Sadie.

WOldBearS - house insurance is the best place to add it, you can get accidental damage cover on that too if thats what your worried about.

I still live with my parents for the moment, so wanted a seperate insurance.

O/T Nutella, how did you make the link in your signature clickable?

You should just be able to add it to your home contents insurance - you may have to pay a supplement depending on what it's worth but shouldn't be too much.

Thank you everyone, i will ask my parents to add it onto the home insurance. When i move i guess i can always switch it over onto my own.

My ring is apparently too valuable to go on our house insurance, so our financial advisor person recommended we have a seperate insurance for it. One of our insurance payments that comes out is for LV at about £5 a month, our other is with something like assurant ltd and about £30 per month. I assume the smaller amount is for the ring but I really don't have a clue, OH sorted it, it could well be the other way round. It seems a lot to pay over a year but apparently it's worth it to be properly protected. Make sure your parents' premium won't have to go up!

I was going to suggest this too. Mine is added on to the home contents insurance and had to be named separately, with an insurance valuation to boot. I think it was only an extra £30-35 or something similar. It covers loss/damage outside of the home too which is very important, in case it gets lost or the stone falls out (this happened to my Ma's ring! One reason to get it cleaned and checked every year by a jeweller).

Depending on the price they may not even have to declare it as a high value item (I'm not being rude but our limit is 1500 per item, so one of our three rings doesn't have to be separately stated)

We have had to itemise mine on our house insurance as we're above the £1500 threshold. It added about £2 a month to our payments. They tried to charge an extra £10 a month when I added it but I went online and got a fresh quote with it itemised and it came to the £2 extra so this is what they honoured.

My E -ring cost about £150 so I am strangely feeling slightly smug at this thread! I know I oughtn't....!
