Engagement ring on THE day?

Cache13, 22 July, 2015 at 19:52 Posted on Planning 0 12

Just a thought - do I wear my engagement ring on the wedding day?

It always seems to be the bride has a ring-free finger, but my wedding ring is designed to sit around my engagement ring and looks a bit random on its own.

On another note - only 4 days left at work for me whooooo.

I'll be wearing mine on the opposite hand and popping it back in its rightful place straight after the ceremony :-)

It's customary to chuck it on the right hand. when to swap it back is up to you.

i went for the next day as in my mind, the engagement ring had been in the spotlight for over a year. the wedding ring deserved at least a day as the main attraction Smiley winking

You cannot do the exchanging of rings if you already have something on your finger. My advice would be to switch it to your right hand or give it to a bm/mother before the ceremony starts, or you will forget. But as others have said, when you switch it back is up to you. You can do it as soon as the ceremony is done if you want.

Miss Winter - what a fabulous idea. That hasn't occurred to me but I like your reasoning and may do the same.

I asked the registrar last week when we met with him and he said there is no rule. therefore I'm keeping mine on (its loose whereas WR isn't) and the way I see it is, the ER is the promise to marry and the WR is sealing the deal Smiley smile I'd feel naked without my ER now!

I'm just going to put it on my right hand and then put it back on left when I remember.

Apart from Inked Doll's comment, I don't think it matters at all what you do - as long as you don't forget where you put your ER!

I was told your finger has to be bare. Maybe it differs in different places, or different ministers? Who knows.

I already have a ring on my right hand so my OH is going to take it and then put it on at the end of the ceremony :-)

My rings are also very much a set and the wedding ring won't work on its own :-)

I did not know that. I was wearing mine (not deliberately, I just totally forgot to take it off) and nothing was said. BUT that may have been because our ceremony was not legally binding.
