Engagement ring problem

Vanadesse, 22 September, 2013 at 07:06 Posted on Planning 0 8

My OH and I chose my ring together last weekend. When we went in the woman asked if I knew what size I was, I said I think I did and she looked at my finger and said I probably was. She got the ring for us in that size and I tried it on, it fit fairly OK but I wasn't sure if it was right. I kept asking her and my OH if it looked right, she said it looked like a good fit to her. I've got no experience of rings you see, I haven't worn another ring since I was about 17! The problem is now that I've had it on for a week it seems to me that it's too big. While there was a little resistance when I tried to take it off in the shop there isn't much now and it twists round so that I keep having to move the stone back to centre. When my hands are wet I really worry about it falling off!

So, if I go back there with it should they replace or resize at their cost based on the situation? Or is it down to me?

The place you got your ring from should resize free of charge seeing as you bought from them. They really should have checked your ring size and the size of the ring at the time of purchase.

If it doesnt fit they would probably replace it but it sounds like it does to me. Mine has resistance but still the stone turns. I tried on the sizes above and below so know this was the right size for me.

Mine is the same, the jewellers said it should 'slide on and wiggle off'.

When my hands are coldit's really loose but when my hands are warm it's perfect.

I hadn't worn a ring since I was about 7 years old but I have got used toit. I'm still a abit paranoid of losing it though and constantly check it's still there!

I'm really worried about losing it too! There is a little resistence taking it off but I don't need to wiggle it, I can pull it straight off and it just has a little resistance around my knuckle but not a lot. She didn't offer for me to try the size above and below and I didn't think to, would have been a good idea!

They probably won't replace it but they probably will resize it for you at no charge. We've got our wedding rings now and when we went in and chose they measured OH (already knew mine from the engagement ring)and ordered them in but OHs band was too large. They resized it at no charge and you can't tell at all. Also, he had been measured with their ring gauge thing but I don't think it always translates accurately to a ring due to thickness, shape etc

It may be worth buying a cheap costume ring in the size below and trying that for a few days before going back. Or get a ring cushion and see how you feel then.

My hands are constantly swelling up and down. When I got my ring I got a bigger size but then that felt too loose so had to get it resized. The jeweller did that at their cost. Now it's snug for the most part, tho it stays put it's created its own groove in my finger.

When I tried mine on the lady in the shop said to wear it for a few weeks and see how it felt as fingers do swell and 'shrink' at times.

I had mine made smaller by about half a size and it's much better. This was free of charge. I think your shop should also do the same thing. If your OH had just gone off and got your ring without you there the chances would have been that it needed re-sizing anyway.

Mine also feels big and I had the exact sames worries as you. Been wearing it since February now and it is absolutely fine. My hands do swell a lot so the extra room is a god send!
