engagement ring - when and how do you wear it on wedding day?

bit, 14 March, 2011 at 14:56 Posted on Planning 0 17

What do you do with the Er on your wedding day? do you wear it on the right hand and then put it on for signing of the register with our wedding ring? i dont think my BMs would want the reponsibility of minding it and they wont have bags with them. any ideas welcomed

Tradition is you wear it on your right hand until you married them put it on under your wedding ring after the ceremony!

I have heard of both being done. I am going to pop it on my right hand I think. Although if your chief bridemaid lacks pockets etc, she could be entrusted with it on her finger??

I'm planning to wear mine on my right hand during the ceremony but because of its shape, I won't be able to wear it next to my wedding ring. I thought about looking into jewellers who would be able to turn it into a necklace to wear. Either that or keep it in a pretty box to pass on to whichever of my kids gets engaged first and/or wants it!

Mine won't fit on my right hand so I'm having my seamstress sew a little pocket into my dress so I can ut it in there. I'll then put it back on once I've been given my wedding ring.

I want to wear mine as normal and then swap them round afterwards. Is that bad luck then?

My Mum kept mine and I put it back on just before I walked back down the aisle.

    WSS!

I thought about a pocket but again, I think I'll be trying to give it a sneaky feel every so often which may not be the best look!! Best to have it somewhere I can see it.

(Though I did think about asking OH to put it on his pinky finger!)

    Can I confirm:

The WR goes on the finger 1st, THEN the ER (once we are married)?

I'm confused when someome said they go over or under on another???
