Entertaining children

Mrs EtoB, 20 March, 2014 at 11:01 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi

I just wondered if anyone was going to any special effort to cater for entertaining children? We've got quite a few children attending ages ranging from 1 years olds, 3 and 4 years old, and 9-11 year olds. I'm sure their parents will bring some things to keep them entertained but I was wondering if I ought to put together little packs for them on the tables at the wedding breakfast? Maybe some little puzzles or colouring books. What do people think? Has anyone else done this?

Thanks

We have a number of children attending too & we're putting a little activity table in one corner of the main room for them. It will have things like you have suggested such as colouring books, crayons, games, puzzles. My neice is a primary school teacher so we will be asking her for ideas to go with it.

Yes I am doing party bags for them, containing a couple of snacks, a carton of juice, drawing/colouring things, a small toy, bubbles, maybe Top Trumps for the older ones. Something like these: https://www.notonthehighstreet.com/

Those lifesize puzzles seem fun...not sure how expensive though. Like big jenga and connect four?!

We are having a wedding creche. I gave to admit tho that this is not so much for their entertainment but more because we have a strict limit on numbers at the venue and by having a separate kids party in another room we can have more adults at the wedding breakfast. We've not booked it yet but I've done some research and there are loads of companies who offer the service and they keep the kids entertained for you!

I have made party bags for them (same style to the adults favours but have used bigger bags) with finger puppets, bubbles, puzzle, colouring/sticker book and crayons in. I might also put a sweetie or something in there too. Should keep them entertained for a little while. Got at the bags and bits off ebay, except bubbles im getting from Tesco and cost me under £20 for 12 bags. I was tempted by the foam planes/gliders that you make as I loved those as a kid, but could see them landing in peoples dinners!

I had 3 boys under 3 years old and i got them goodies bags with chocolate & colouring books but the thing they all went nuts for? the magic writing pad! the thing when you write on it and swipe it all away with a plastic arm (like an etch-a-sketch) it cost me 50p each Smiley smile

We run a hire company mainly focusing on our photo booth, dance floors, chocolate fountains etc. We actually run another company separately where we do loads of bouncy castles, soft play, large garden games etc. Maybe it's time to merge the two together as more and more often people are ringing us for a bouncy castle at their wedding. Could be an idea to keep them entertained? Soft play for the younger ones.

I think the goodie bags seem like a good idea Smiley smile

If we a lot of children guests i'd ideally love a separate room with a games console set up, maybe a tv with some dvd's & a lot of toys out for them.

Wish we could get a bouncy castle n stuff too but that'd appeal to me more than the kids probably haha!
