We don't want to spend loads but would like to be able to choose our play list so there are no songs played that Lou n Will don't like!! Special effects aren't a neccessity but a good DJ is!! Some one please HELP we're in the Berkshire area, venue comes under Surrey but is litterally the cut off point for Berkshire!!

    Welcome, and relax. Smiley smile

I'm sure there will be recommendations along shortly (we aren't in your area, or having a disco, so can't really help at all) but if you go to Suppliers on the purple bar at the top of this page, go down to "Music and DJ's" you can filter by county and at least make contact with some of those listed to see what comes up.

What is your budget, by the way?

Unfortunately, like everything else in this world, you do get what you pay for.

A quick easy way to find a DJ is to put an enquiry into either of these sites. The DJs in your area and available for your date will contact you with their details and prices.

Top class wedding specialist DJs can be found here http://www.weddingdjalliance.co.uk/wedding_dj_berkshire.php

General party DJs can be found here https://mobiledjdisco.co.uk/mobile_disco_berkshire.html

You should be able to get a good DJ for that budget. Knowing what to ask is key to selecting the right DJ for the job. There's some good advice on these two links with some questions to ask. http://www.weddingdjalliance.co.uk/selecting_a_wedding_dj.php and https://partydjdisco.co.uk/selecting_a_mobile_dj.html

When you have a short list, ask to meet up before making your final choice. Its important you get on with your entertainer as they end up such an integral part of the wedding. Also you want to be sure you are both singing from the same song sheet.

    Hey Maid-of-organisation,

As others have already said try and relax, you will soon realize that Wedding DJ's come in a range of prices some for £200 others up to £1000+ It all depends on what you require and who you contact.

A suggestion is clicking here: Berkshire DJ's. This will take you to SEDA's (South Eastern Discotheque Associatio) directory of DJ's covering Berkshire.

I hope this helps and you find the perfect Wedding DJ for your sister's Wedding!

Yes -with London DJ on this, I know a few of the guys on the SEDA website, and they will do a good job.

    I know of Darren Thomas from online discussions and he may be a good port of call;

I think you'll be ok with the budget you've mentioned (ie £400 max), but really focus on how the DJ responds and what they can offer (I'm thinking experience, service rather than lighting/branded sound systems).

Other than price, think of a few points that are important to you?

-It sounds like you want a DJ that will play a list of your music, and a good DJ will be able to work with this list and suggest other songs that are known to work well. You can't really plan the music too much in advance as some things just don't work (or your 2 requested rock & roll songs turn into a 20-min set as everyone is up dancing!)
The DJ will be interested in what music you like.

-How important is reliability to you? Should the DJ carry back-up equipment? What will they do if their main system fails?

-Can you meet them if they are local? Its a great way to break the ice, and you can convey what you want from them, and ask them some probing questions!

-Do they sound professional? Will they give you a quote, confirmation, and other bits of paper to convince you they're serious?

These are all things to think about, and I'd suggest this may take 1 or 2 hours to make a few calls and get a feel for who you like.

For any service to do a good job, you need to work out what is important and then make sure they are able to deliver.

After speaking to a few DJ's and getting budgetary quotes, you should be in a better position to pick a few that meet your budget. You may well find that some of the cheaper quotes are perfect for you, but restricting yourself on a low budget could be a mistake if you are able to go higher.

    I hope this helps,

    Jason
