Essex or kent Venues

Tahlz, 27 May, 2013 at 10:45 Posted on Planning 0 22

Hey all,

I am new to this site, so i don't quite know how everything works yet!

We have started planning our wedding and we are looking for a reasonable priced Essex/Kent Wedding Venue. We would also love a place where we can have exclusive use of the venue Smiley laugh.

Any suggestions?

We looked at some in Essex they were all exclusive use so hope this helps:

Turkey Barn - Really lovely venue and the grounds are amazing. Hire only was approx £3000 so out of our budget.

The Barn at Great Yeldham - Lovely inside, not much in the way of grounds but very reasonably priced.

The Reid Rooms - Lovely place, affordable. The bar and dance floor is in a separate room to the reception room. Can get married outside here.

The Old Rectory - Nice inside but stunning pagoda outside to get married if the weather is right. Really affordable.

Crondon Park - Stunning barn, beautiful golf club grounds with lake. Lovely wedding coordinators who are so helpful and set everything up on the day and coordinate the day. This is the place we went for in the end.

We are marrying at the lost village of Dode in Kent. It's exclusive use but small. You can have both ceremony and reception there. It's around 2650 for a Saturday ex catering. Limited (as in no) kitchen facilities however!

House Meadow does look lovely DaffodilWaves. Is it all outside or can you move inside if the weather doesn't hold up?

Not sure what you class as reasonable budget wise (Essex is expensive!), but we looked at both Blake Hall and Crondon Park. Both are exclusive use, I probably preferred Blake Hall but Crondon was cheaper. I've been to Newland Hall which was a lovely wedding in a marquee-again, exclusive use. They had a church wedding but I think the ceremony room there is on the small side (but if the weather's good the wedding can be outside).

In Kent I've been to Brandshatch Place, again that was a lovely wedding. I really wanted to check out Cooling Castle barn when we were looking but it was fully booked quite far in advance.

    Is North Essex too far?

My SIL got married at Springfield marquee a few years ago & it was lovely. Beautiful grounds & exclusive use. No idea of cost though.

Some others in North Essex, near Colchester:

If you are prepared to cross the border (just) in to Herts, just off the A10 is Three Lakes. This is a well run, yet not overly priced venue. Maxine is the wedding planner there and does a fantastic job.

The hitched system has somehow squished the images although hopefully they will give you an idea.....

Outdoor weddings overlook a valley which offers some beautiful sunset opportunities....

We got married at St Augustine's Priory in Bilsington, near Ashford in Kent. Gorgeous venue, brilliant staff and superb food! I'd highly recommend it.

I don't know about Kentish venues as we only looked at Essex ones. We are having our reception at crabbs barn in kelvedon which is a lovely 500year old barn. Kelvedon also has Prested hall. What type of venue are you looking for?

There's the coach house at marks hall near coggeshal. Vaulty manor near maldon and goldhanger. Reid Rooms or Channels in Chelmsford. Maidens barn in high Easter near Chelmsford. Crondon park near chelmsford. Gaynes park in Epping. White hart in great yeldham. The barn brasserie in great tey. Fennes, Braintree. The Lawn near Southend. Five lakes golf and country club. Braxted Park. Layer Marney tower. Lees priory. Wivenhoe House. (The last few were amazing but way out of our budget.)

Really? I'm getting married at Fennes and it is not cheap! Would be interested to see what this deal is (and then feel sick at the savings I could have made! ?) Suspect it is for a 'last minute' offer. Fennes is lovely though so if last minute works for the OP then it would definitely be worth a look.

We looked at loads - Hedingham Castle (lovely but expensive), Smeetham Hall Barn, The Lawns, Prested Hall, Down Hall - The Lawns was probably the best value out of all of those. Really like Hylands House in Chelmsford but it was too small for us. My sister got married at Blake Hall and that was lovely. Some of the ones I found harder to find information about were Mulberry House, Valentine's Mansion in Ilford where they filmed the Great British Bake Off and Gilwell Park, all of which were a bit less expensive.

    Good luck!

If you're willing and able to do last minute and midweek, you can get some stunning deals at the Fennes and their sister venue Parklands, but that's not to everyones taste...

    That looks absolutely gorgeous!

Have you had a look at Cooling Castle? I have no idea what sort of venue you are looking for. The main venues I have been to in Kent are Cooling Castle Barn and Port Lymphe Wildlife Park (I know Port Lymphe is probably quite expensive) absolutely stunning venue though...

Not too sure about venues in Essex though, always worth going round and having a look Smiley smile

The ORB is gorgeous! Our friends dad owns it. He is a lovely guy too.

You'd not be able to legally get married there though, so i'm not sure it'd fit the bill ☹️

Hmm, until I saw the 'reasonably priced' bit, I was about to shout HEVER CASTLE!

Although, actually, National Trust properties can be nice venues.

Chartwell and Emmetts Garden both do weddings. Bodiam castle does as well, but I don't know if they're licensed for ceremonies. Stowe do weddings, too..
