Evening Catering

sarahh123, 19 October, 2010 at 21:10 Posted on Planning 0 3

Hi All,

Im looking into catering for my evening buffet reception, and have heard lots of people say that you should only cater for 75% of your evening guests to prevent lots of food being left over.

Are most venues happy for you to request buffet food for 75 people if you have 100 attending, Or do most people just give a different total number of guests to the amount actually attending!

Thanks in advance for any advice

Sarah

I've found most venues have said you have to cater for 100% - Thinks its to get the money rolling in and to stop them looking stupid if the food runs out.

Ours said we have to cater for every person but the package is for 100 people, so we're actually going to invite 120 or so people, catering for just the 100, as I'm confident that will be plenty!

Our venue said "minimum 75% of evening guests" so that's our plan.

We're working on the principle that 1) children won't each a full buffet portion, 2) if your WB guests have had a decent meal just a few hours ago they won't want to eat a big meal again, 3) not everyone will want to stay (such as those travelling some distance, the elderly or those bringing small children) into the evening until the buffet comes out which is typically 8.30pm-9pm anyway

Our venue has advised us to cater for 75% of our evening guests. We're going to be having a carved buffet for our Wedding Breakfast, we were originally going to be having a buffet in the evening, but the options were very similar to the daytime food, so we've opted for our venues alternative - a cheese board! Apparently it's always a hit and not a scrap is left, the chef makes all his own breads, etc too. I can't wait . . . Mmmm, cheese! ?
