EVENING DO CATERING - How many is usual??

LISA221010, 17 October, 2010 at 14:52 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hi ladies

Im just finalising our numbers for our eve reception next Fri (cant believe its next Fri!!) and it looks like we are going to have 125 people altogether if everyone who has confirmed they are coming do actually turn up.

Bearing in mind our day guests total 55, what number would you cater for in the eve??

Our venue says 80% but when speaking to other people including our videographer over the weekend, they have commented how much food there always seems to be wasted on wedding eve dos, saying some people dont eat, the day guests might still be full from the meal (being served at 4.00 pm ish - eve food at 9.00 pm ish)

As its not cheap per head (it is a traditional type buffet were having rather than bacon/sausage sarnes) how many should we cater for as even a reduction of not catering for 10 people has a significant cost impact.

What do you think??

Thanks all!!!

My venue has told me to cater for half the people. They say that those that have been with us all day will have eaten a big meal the evening guests may well have eaten anyway. So i would say cater for 70 ish

Our venue says to cater for 75% but I think that is too hight tbh... those coming in the evening generally eat first and we are having a 3 course dinner late in the afternoon for the day guests!

Ours has said 75% too although I think that's a bit high. Friends of ours were told 80-90% for theirs and there was an awful lot of food left over. I think we'll go for about 60% now and see if we can get a better ide of the real numbers closer to the time. Our venue does seem to be quite flexible which is good.
