Evening Entertainment

HMA123, 9 March, 2012 at 15:37 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi All,

I'm a little bit stuck with what to do for evening entertainment. We want to have a good boogie so I think a DJ but I'm not sure if people will expect to see a singer or band.

What do you think? Is it possible to have both or does that seem like a waste?

    Hello,

You can have a good mix of both.

Please take a look at our website www.leejonweddingsinger.co.uk we provide a nice combination of live music and DJ/Disco so you get the best of both without the price of a band! We have catered for weddings with as little as 20 guests to weddings and events with over 1500 guests and we are a nationwide service.

We offer a variety of live music from modern The Killers, Kings of Leon, Keane to more soft Rock oldies like Whitesnake, Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams to 60's & 70's party music like Blues Brothers, Beatles etc.

Our website contains loads of demo's, images and testimonials so please feel free to browse around.?

I don't think people 'expect' anything unless you've have already told them on the invite. A wedding I went to last year just had a DJ but it didn't feel lacking in any way.

We are having a jazz band (friends of my Nan!) play during afternoon tea/garden party, then after dinner we are having a ceilidh band for an hour or so, AND then we are having DJ! Luckily we don't have a finish time so can party until the small hours to fit it all in.

I've preferred DJs at weddings, TBH. No one expects anything. I've found some bands just do poor imitations of the real thing, but then others can be amazing. DJs will generally be able to play whatever mix of music you ask them too, and as they will be the original tracks, there's no reason to worry about quality of the music.

We are hoping to find a sax player for the evening (if we find one) then just have ipod i hate wedding djs they generally try to just please everyone but instead please nobody as per bands i have quite a few friends that are singers but dont want them to be working for me on my wedding day and i fear another singer/band may not compare to them so steering clear.

WSS - no one expects to have a band unless informed otherwise. We have a DJ and that's it Smiley smile as he will be able to provide a good choice of songs and hopefully keep the dance floor full.

We have a band that DJ in between sets. They played at a wedding I went to and I had to have them.

People don't expect anything though. Have what you want. My mam had a ceilidh at her wedding in 1997 and it went down a storm.

We're having both sort of. We're having a band first and then they are DJing after their set. I would have been happy with just a DJ but my H2B wanted both. I don't think guests will care either way as long as there is music. We're also having an Irish band during the drinks reception so a little of everything!

A good band will be expensive, and even the best bands will be limited in their reportour. Not many will be open for requests during their set!

But, there are good DJ's and bad DJ's and the same applies to Bands.

I think most couples dread the idea of the "Peter Kaye" style DJ, cracking poor jokes and shouting "shabba".

Things have moved on, even if that stereotype ever did exist.

Regarding expections from guests, I don't think you need to worry. They will be there for you and your Husband.

A good band is great, and coupled with a dedicated DJ (as opposed to a knackered band member), can really provide a night of really special, varied entertainment.

At the lower end of the Band, I've seen (not worked with!) some that are not good. Apart from being poor musiacians, they play too loud (and I'm a DJ.. used to high levels!), messed up the 1st dance, didn't make any introductions and jumped the queue for the buffet.

I was a guest, and was shocked...

So, I would say, whatever you decide (band or DJ, or both), give them a grilling before you decide to book!
