Evening entertainment

hampshire_bride, 21 August, 2012 at 22:02 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi everyone,

I am just looking for a little advice on evening entertainment please. We don't know where to start. We are having a reception at a golf club in Camberley. I guess we need to find a DJ who has lighting? I really don't want those ones with the green laser dots though (if you know what I mean?) as I think they look fine on the night but spoil photos.

Has anyone who has booked or already used their reception music entertainment got any advice on where we should start our search and what to look for?

Thanks!

Have you asked the venue if they have any recommendations? Maybe DJs other people have used in the past.

I think its a case of a bad photographer if he allows disco lighting to spoil photos.

Now why didn't we think of that?! I'll give them a ring. Thanks!

We used Chris Burford for our wedding and he was the best DJ ever. He was amazing from the start of planning to finish, we had up lighters all day and night (included in the price), he had all different types of lights, lasers etc... so you can taylor what you want, he gave us pointers about things i hadnt even considered, ideas of things to do, kept the party going till the very last second, the dance floor was full the whole night. Everyone commented on the DJ so i was very pleased.

There are lots of possibilities for you, have a look at Wedding DJ websites, not nessecarilly in your area but to give you an idea of what services are out there. Seak with your other suppliers, photographers, venues, even the florists. They have usually got to know other DJs that they have worked with or met at fairs and can give you a bit of an insight.

Work out what type of music you want, not just your tastes but an idea of what will get you and your friends and family up dancing. A Pro DJ should be able to read to crowd but its a good idea, to understand what you want from your DJ before you book to ensure that he or she can meet your expectations.

Once you have found the style of DJ you would like speak with some in you area, explain what you are looking for. As for a meeting, usually works best at the venue.

Ask what venues they have worked with, if they are recommended at any to you and speak with the events team at those venues. Ask if they have any previous customers they are happy for you to contact.

Check to see if they are part of any organisational bodies such as WDJA (Wedding DJ Alliance), NADJ (National Association of DJs) or SEDA (South Eastern Disco Association). Ensure that they have current Public Liability Insurance and if all of their equipment is PAT (portable Appliance Tested).

Once you have down all of this you will feel more confident that the DJ that you are swaying towards will be the right DJ for you.

Hopefully that will help a bit Smiley winking

I've booked a band through Alive Network who can DJ in between sets.

Once they've packed up and left at midnight I think we will go with a trusty iPod speaker set up and people will start to leave then and it will start the last man standing competition ha ha.

This sounds incredibly confusing and a LOT of work for music. I'm so glad my venue has their own DJ Smiley smile
