Evening food?

akhreg1983, 24 January, 2011 at 12:56 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has any advice on providing evening food? We are wondering whether its etiquette to do this - our guests will be eating the main three course wedding meal at about 5:30pm, (and the cake cutting will be later at 7ish) but our costs are spiralling out of control a bit! If we are eating as early as 5:30pm I guess it does make sense to have something in the evening, but I went to a couple of weddings last year on the same kind of timescale where the evening buffet was completely wasted as no-one really ate any! Our venue would require us to have the food from them too, so its not like we can do it ourselves on a budget...

Any advice much appreciated!

xx

    Hi

We're just providing people with bacon and veggie baps - probably at around 9/10pm. We're eating earlier than you too, so i think you'll be fine offering just this, or even nothing. I for one couldn't manage a full sit down meal at 5.30 THEN a full on buffet later!

Sorry - meant to add that this takes the cost down from the £15-£20 per head they would charge for a small buffet to just £3.50 pre head for rolls.

    Thanks all.

The thing is that we don't have that many extra evening guests. If we did, I would be more inclined to do a buffet, but there will probably only be an extra 15 or 20. Am considering having a cheese wedding cake (which will be cut after the evening guests arrive) and also some little cupcakes, so then people can snack on cheese and crackers and cupcakes during the evening!

    xx
