Ever experienced venue wobbles?

*BigBird*, 9 April, 2012 at 11:55 Posted on Planning 0 9

I know our venue is a lovely place and I am happy with it , yet I can’t stop looking at another venue which is beautiful, but not realistically in our budget – Plus we have already paid our £1000 deposit.

I don’t know if it is because we chose our venue over this one, because of a) the price and b) they had hardly any dates left for a Saturday wedding.

This morning I’ve been sitting here looking at photo’s of the other one, thinking why didn’t we just do Friday wedding..

Maybe I just need to go and have a look around our venue and hopefully fall in love with it again..

Has anyone else ever experienced this? Is down to having booked it so far in advance?

    I have!

Our venue is set in an old RAF base and when I compared it to my friend's stately home-esque venue from a few years ago, I did worry.

However, I've come to realise that no-one will judge us, and it's like a blank canvas that we can decorate and make our mark upon ?

    Hi!

I have had exactly the same feelings as you - we have chosen a lovely hotel venue which is conveniently close to our church and 'ticks all of our boxes' (including cost). However, I initially fell in love with a beautiful moated country house in lots of land, and can't get it out of my head! I woke up thinking about it last night! It is totally impracticle, miles from anywhere and has nowhere nearby for people to stay, and small inconveniences (like no proper bar, just bottles!) which made us decide on the hotel. We too have paid our deposit.

My advice would be to stop looking at photos of the other venue, as you've paid your deposit now. I have been focussing all of my efforts on making the booked and paid-for venue perfect. You have more cash to spend on lovely little touches to make your day fabulous. I would go and see your venue again, and it will get you all excited for your big day.

Hope it all works out! Cheers! ?

Yeah I have, mainly because it was the only venue we saw 'in person' not just online. We put all our eggs in one basket as we had one day to come back, look round and decide and nothing else appealed. I'm just being spoilt really because this venue is perfect for us and all our guests, they are very accommodating, food is brilliant, lovely grounds...the only thing I really don't like is the decor of the wedding breakfast room, it's not going to look good with my colours but I'm hoping I can just cover it up eeeek!

I’m glad I’m not the only one! Pheww.

I about to email them and ask what dates they had available but shut the laptop off instead.

My Mum is coming to stay for a few days so hopefully she will talk some sense into me. Plus we are meeting the venue dresser tomorrow; with her amazing talents, I’m sure I will be put at ease.

I think I’m just having an ‘off’ day. Haha.

I haven't fell out of love with my venue but have found out they have since booked in another 2 weddings on the day!! Although they have assured me they do it often and everything will be fine I cant help but worry. One of them is only an evening reception and the other bridal party will arrive when we eat, and have their evening reception at the other end of the building. I always knew there could be anoher wedding but not 2!!

If they do it often, you probably won't even notice the other weddings on the day. But, I would feel just the same SB.

So true. I have to trust they know what they are doing. I am ok now but I did panic when I first found out. I'm sure I will be so overwhelmed I wont notice (fingers crossed ha)

    Yes I did.

I booked it last July but didn't visit it again till last month but other relatives had gone in the meantime and told me it was awful.

Glad to say another visit really helped ?

I think it is natural to have wobbles about anything wedding related as you focus so much on making it perfect. I have wanted my venue since i was a little girl so unlikely to wobble about that if i havent for last 20 years! But I am dithering o neverything from whether i was right to pick a 3pm ceremony rather than 2pm and how the day should run in the venue etc. Just remember on the day it is so unlikely you will be thinking about a single of these wobbles you had on the run up!

I did - and I cancelled my original venue...I actually did this twice! Luckily, it only ended up costing me £150 in 'admin' fees as I was cancelling a Saturday in high season and the venues kindly let me off a huge chunk of the 'non-refundable' deposit, I was very, very lucky! Anyway, our current (and final!) venue is BEAUT, and even though it is perfect, I still google other venues and have a snoop!

So...back to you! I guess you have to revisit your venue to decide if it's a 'real' wobble that you might want to consider doing something about, or just a fleeting worry which may have sprung from having so very many choices to make during the wedding planning process, which can leave you unsure of yourself and the decisions you make.
