Everton

Went to watch my first premiership game yesterday & what an experience! I was completely overwhelmed by the size of Liverpool. And by the amount of people that went to watch the game. It was a fun experience though, the whole crowd thing, chanting etc.

Before the game started, we did a minute's clap for Gary Speed. His dad came out onto the pitch and a load of his old team mates. It was a really overwhelming experience.

Even though Everton lost (booooo!) I'd love to go again. I can only imagine how great the morale would be if they won!

They've been drawn against Tamworth in the FA Cup so mayeb that's a game they'll win ?

Anyone else been to a big football game? (Probably more than likely). What was your first experience like?

I would love to go and see Liverpool play at Anfield and hear the Kop in full flow - they have the most amazing, dedicated fans.

I think the Merseyside derby is the only match where you'll see rival fans sitting next to each other during the match.

Liverpool is an amazing City and I'm glad you had a good time.

H & I went with a couple of his friends to see Aston Villa v Sunderland last January. Never seen crowds like it and the atmosphere was amazing, despite Villa loosing Smiley sad

Mr C took me to my first match about 3 years ago where we saw England play at Old Trafford...

Since then we have been to 3 England games at Wembley (U16s Vs Spain, U21s Vs Croatia (?) and the normal team Vs Brazil!!) and a charity legends match at Anfield - which was amazing as we sat in the Kop end and sang our hearts out!

I much prefer live football matches to the tv, the atmosphere really makes a difference.

I've been watching football matches since I was about 10, my dad often took me to Middlesbrough, but growing up I ventured all over the country going to away matches which are always the best for atmosphere IMO. my H is an avid Baggies fan so I'm often at the Hawthornes, I have experienced the Kop, but it was in international match England v Uruguay but it was amazing. I went to Portugal in 2004 to watch the European Championships England v Croatia which was by far the best experience in terms of atmosphere it was sureal! Glad you had a good time Alice.

I've been going to football matches my whole life.

Used to go to Elm Park to watch Reading play from the age of 4 until they moved to the Mad Stad (only been there once though).

Been to Goodison Park (about 6 times), Highbury (when Arsenal played there), Old Trafford, Anfield and St James Park (it will always be called that to me). I've been to see England play at the new Wembley too.

I have see Liverpool play, in the Kop, for a Champion's League qualifier. My two outstanding memories are:

    1. A small scratter offering to "Look after your car, mister", when we parked. We assumed this meant "Give me a fiver or I'll slash your tires".

    2. The franky appalling language being shouted (not the problem, really) by old men and women (the amusing part), who look like butter wouldn't melt.

Have seen many football matches - used to be a season ticket holder for my home team, which involved lots of premiership matches. Also seen lots of England matches. We took a Mexican friend to Craven Cottage a couple of years ago. She was very disappointed that it wasn't quite as big as the Azteca Smiley smile

Ooooh, I know right. There was this really old man in front of me, hearing aid and everything and he was shouting some right abuse!

The funniest, though, was the man directly in front of me. He was bald. The referee was also bald. When the ref didn't give a penalty, he shouted "Go f*ck yourself you stupid, bald, pr*ck!"

I did get into the shouting towards the end, but it was more "booooooo" and "hissss" than "w*nkers". I thought it would have sounded weird, as I was probably the most southern person there and, in comparison to the Northerners, I probably sounded really posh!!

My uncles all have season tickets and if one of them can't go I (sometimes!) win the fight to go instead! I wish I could bottle the atmosphere when the Kop sing You'll Never Walk Alone, it's one of our readings at the wedding. I hear it and the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end and a huge lump appears in my throat! Amazing.

I've been lucky enough to go to a few Derbys and it's true you do see a lot of reds and blues sat next to each other, probably not as many as one time, but a lot more than in other cities. Makes me very proud!

Daddy Mini was a Portsmouth season ticket holder for many years and used to take me to all the home games when I was a little girl. You can see Fratton Park from my old bedroom window and on evening games I would go to sleep being able to hear the match going on.

I havnt been to a match since then and as MrMini hates football I cant see me going again any time soon.

FA Cup 4th round I believe in 2009 was my first trip to Goodison. Not been taken since, OH family had a collection of season tickets for generations! but when a spare seat comes up I am too far down the pecking order to get asked at the minute. OH has gone every home game for at least 16 years I believe, he is only 22.

I used to go watch PNE alot with my ex step dad. When Moyes managed them actually.

Moyes lives in my mums village and is friendly with my aunt so got his autograph recently for OH.

Everton double bed spread....cracking gift from MIL ?

I used to love going to football matches (Aston Villa). I've been to one away game and the atmosphere was so different, much more intense even though there were obviously less supporters.

I haven't been for a while as H supports Birmingham City (the rival team). My MIL goes to every single Birmingham game, home and away.
