Every cloud has a silver (or ivory) lining...

Littlelaura82, 26 October, 2011 at 19:06 Posted on Planning 0 30

I have a broken foot and had some very bad news yesterday that its just not healing like it should. They are giving it another 3 weeks in plaster and if its still not mending then i will have to have a pin put in. I was pretty down and feeling very sorry for myself. I had 2 appointments booked for yesterday at different dress shops in town and another nearer to home this morning and I have to admit at midday yesterday i was seriously considering cancelling them all.

I didnt as my mum talked me out of it and because she had taken the time off work to come with me i decided we should just go for it. I felt self conscious about the cast and was worried that I would not get a felt for the dresses as walking was tough. Yesterdays 2 shops were accomodating of my big red plaster cast but todays was amazing. The lady who ran the shop helped me in and out of dresses and even found me lots of right shoes to try on (somthing that no other shop even asked if i wanted to try). She ran around getting me cups of tea and glasses of water and was the loveliest sales person I have ever met. I also found THE dress in her shop - so i am very glad I didnt cancel the appointments.

I am on cloud nine at the moment and have nearly forgotten about the fact that i have a very poorly foot! Afterall, i now have a dress!!!

Any East/North-East London / Essex / Herts Brides out there looking for a recomendation for a dress shop please let me know! I want to sing from the roof tops about just how amazing this shop was!!!

Oh and for those who love a little flash...

oh dear, its a rather big flash - sorry for the size!

    Isnt it stunning Smiley smile

I am only 5'1" so at the moment it sits at ankle length on me which i really loved. So i dont even think i'll have it taken up and i'll go for it a bit longer than designed.

The boloro jacket comes with it, but i think that I will not wear it in the church so i can wear a veil and then add the jacket for the evening do.

What a beautiful dress, I love the bolero with it. You could still wear a veil wit the jacket.

Thanks Sherrie, I wonder if it would look too much with both after trying it on?

BG, I wonder if shopping with a knee length red plaster cast on my left foot had something to do with the lack of shoe offers? We just laughed about it in the shop I eventually brought from.

We did it though, assistant on one side, mum in the other. It made such a difference seeing it on with a shoe. Anyone who looked in the window would have found it all very amusing I'm sure!

Laura, how funny, I could have written that word for word (also hopping about on crutches with an ankle in pot and not allowed to weight bear!) and I too went dress shopping on Tuesday. First few shops were 'ok' but not overly helpful. Final shop gave me biscuits (always a winner with me ? ), endless drinks, help in and out of dresses, kept making me sit down, could not do ENOUGH to help - she was amazing. I also found 'the' dress there - or rather, 2 dresses as I wanted the top half of one and the bottom half of the other!

So it was a bit spooky to scroll down and see you flash, to realise it's the same designer, and the bottom half of the dress I wanted is yours!! (You may have seen the top half dress if they stocked LouLou - it's got shoulder straps, cross over front, rouched satin and roses stitched on, then roses down the skirt too?)

The high you get from not only finding 'the dress' but being treated like royalty in the process is wonderful at any time I imagine, but when you're stuck in a plaster cast unable to drive or in fact do much at all, it's SUCH a lift!!

What a stunning dress! Mine sits ankle length too and I'm not having it taken up.

I love that little jacket - I would definitely wear it for the church. I think it'll look great with a veil.

50's, how very weird! I loved the dress, so I'm glad you loved even half of it enough to buy it! Indeed, very spooky tho!

Kharv, think I need to try it again with the right veil and the jacket as a few people have said I can do both. My other alternative according to the sales assistant is a fascinator with a net veil just over my face but if I'm honest with myself that's a little ott for me.

I know what you mean. I think the birdcage veils are gorgeous and would definitely go with my dress (and yours) but I just didn't feel 'bridal' enough in them.

I think that's it. I don't want to look back and think I wish I had worn a veil. Have you brought one?

No not yet. I'm trying to find a place that stocks a soft netting that's a similar colour to the tulle on my skirt (very pale coffee). Have a few samples from some online places so going to wait until my dress gets in in the new year and try the samples against it.

Love your dress and the jacket. Mine is also a shorter dress and I'm thinking of getting a similar bolero. I will be wearing a veil as well. I think it will work

Well the dress was so in budget it's unreal, so it would be rude not to find an amazing pair of shoes to show off!!
