Everything on Hold....

Butterfly_Bride, 30 March, 2012 at 11:53 Posted on Planning 0 9

Having a bit of a nightmare that we have had to put our wedding plans on hold ☹️

Everything is already booked and deposits paid, even found my dress but haven't placed the order yet...If I had i would have got 20% off this month too!!

My partner could be made redundant in next 6 - 8 weeks so we decided to put everything on hold until we know what is happening.
Without a job means no wedding - totally gutted about it all because of how much we have done / organised so far!

What would you do in this situation?
If you have everything booked and deposits paid but still have quite bit to pay out??

    Oh no, I'm so sorry!

Do you have any funds at all, or were you planning on saving it all between now and the wedding?

I'm not sure what I'd do, as employment can be so uncertain!

What is your wedding date? and is it possible he may not be made redundant.

If it is not certain I think I would not plan or book anything else, but wait and see what happens before making any other decisions.

If the worst happens I suppose I see 3 broad options:

    1. cancel everything, loose the deposits and wait until things are more certain and rebook.

    2. see if you can keep the same date and suppliers but reduce costs - fewer people, change the format so only one cheaper meal, could you make it more informal and do a pot luck buffet at your venue? other cost saving possibilities

    3. See if you can move the dates with your suppliers, or put it on hold wioth an agreement to use those suppliers fior a future date so you don't loose deposits.

It might be that within 2 you might have to change some suppliers but could keep others so loose fewer depoits.

What does your wedding insurance cover? Can't remember if redundancy was in ours or not...

    DMxx

Is your OH getting a good redundancy package? The only person I know who was made redundant got 6 months full pay and he ended up getting a new job after only 3 months- so he basically got paid double for 3 months!!

It's possible for your OH to get another job, though not knowing what he does, I have no idea how difficult that might be. I would talk to your venue and any other suppliers you've booked to see if they will let you reschedule or put your wedding on hold. Not necessarily cancel, but perhaps if you explain the situation they might agree to let you change the date once you have a better idea about what will happen. That way they won't be losing your business and you won't have to lose a deposit!

I hope he isn't made redundant, though, as I'm sure it would be very stressful no matter how good the redundancy package is.

How awful! Keeping my fingers crossed that it's all a false alarm Smiley sad

If it's not, though, I think DarkMoomin's second option sounds brilliant.

Let us know how things turn out! x

    Hi

    Thank you for your response!

We have the money set aside for the wedding already, but if worse happens then the money would be needed for bills / day to day stuff rather than the wedding day which is a pain!!

Wedding isnt until next year so we have time on our side - we should know in next 2 months what is going to happen (I don't do patient!!)

I like your option 2 and 3 ideas, it might be we have to do some haggling!!

    Thank you again x

    HI Butterfly_bride,

I'm in the same situation with my other half but our wedding isn't until next September.

Hopefully we should find out after Easter what is happening with his job so at the moment I have 2 weddings that I'm planning.

One is the full one with everything we want and the other is a scaled down very.

I'm keeping a very tight eye on the budget and we should be ok no matter what happens.

I hope things turn out ok for you both and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Really sorry to hear about this hopefully your other half won't get made redundant and everything will be fine,

First of all try not to stress or panic (i know easier said than done)

If you have Wedding insurance check to see whats covered.

Be honest with your suppliers and see if you can move your dates and budgets as long as you still use them they show be understanding.

Not sure how much help this is, but good luck and i hope everything works out well for you both.

I am currently same situation - I get made redudant 4 days after the wedding. Currently attempting to juggle organising the wedding and finding a new job. However, when we found out what was happening and the date, we didnt think about postponing the wedding, we have just decided to cut back on things. Throw in the honeymoon and will probably not be able to get a job for a good 6 - 8 weeks until that is all over. However the wedding is giving me something to focus on and will be one day where we can forget about all the stress that is also going on. We have asked for money towards the honeymoon and excursions from our guests, so thankfully we should be ok on that front!

I would maybe just sit back and take stock - you still have plenty of time to cancel etc if need be, but maybe just see what the next couple of months bring. you never know and luck may be on your side.

Trying not to panic at the moment - I am just hoping that everything turns out well.

We havent took insurance out - never even crossed my mind too!

I know we could minimise our spend if need be and still have the day we want, just easier said than done!

Hope all goes well for those in the same boat as me!! Not a nice feeling x

This is the strangest thing ever... I read your post on Friday afternoon thinking god that poor lady, that would be my worst nightmare. Then my OH came home with exactly the same news, half his workforce are being made redundant and he'll find out on 20th April when he has a job or not.

When I read your post I thought that you were very sensible putting everything on hold until you know what is happening and I'm wondering whether we should do the same.

We have literally everything bought/booked and deposits paid so we would lose a good 2 or 3 grand if we called it off but then again, I don't think we could afford to do it all on my wages if the worst happened and he didn't find another job straight away.

He is adamant that we just carry on as normal but I don't know how we can. His nan will lend us the money to keep the wedding on if we are short of money while he's not working but then it's struggling to pay it back.

I know this is no help at all but I think I just needed to get this out as it's driving me a bit mental!

Let us know how he gets on x x x x
