Exchanging items without a receipt

PhoebeBuffay, 28 March, 2008 at 09:43 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

Can you do this? I bought something the other day but need to exchange it for a different size but I now can't find the receipt.

Thanks.

If it still has the tags etc then it shouldn't be a problem.

Does it still have the tags? I honestly think it depends on the shop. My sister tried to exchange a top in H&M for a different size but they wouldn't without a receipt, even though it had all of the tags.

Can you maybe print an online bank statement if it was paid by card?

Alot of companies now don't, partly because of stuff being sold on e*bay, and then people trying to return them to shops for full price refund.

Thanks for the replies, yes it still has all it's tags on, but I was worried about some shops wanting a receipt regardless. Argh, I'm going to have to have another dig around and see if I can find it.

I've done this often. They don't like it but if you're bolshy and insist they usually will.

With regard to the e bay thing - surely if you don't have a receipt you can't have a full price refund anyway? You'd get what the price comes up as on the till? I have this before. A skirt I'd been given for Christmas - left it too late to exchange and got £3 back as that was what it was in the sale?

I've never had a problem exchanging without a receipt. Refund - no. Exchange - no problems.

Depends on the shop. I know that Homebase, House of Frasier are a no.

Marks and Spencer are pretty lenient.
