Excited - Booked to give notice!

Stazzle, 5 August, 2009 at 15:39 Posted on Planning 0 10

Bit silly really getting excited over this, but I am a bit! I've just booked for T and I to go and give notice of marriage on Monday 7th Sept, at 12pm! We've both taken a day off work as they only do appointments from 9am-3pm Mon to Fri which is a bit annoying, but hey ho - we've decided to go and get lunch and make an afternoon of it afterwards!

Also, silly question - do you have to dress nicely to go and give notice or can you just wear a pair of jeans? <idiot icon>

    How exciting!

You obviously found it a lot easier to do than I did! I am booking the registrar on Monday and wanted to give notice after that but I've been told I can't even book an appointment to give notice until the registrar is booked! WTF? I know I'm booking it first thing Monday so why can't I book an appointment for Monday afternoon?

Sorry, mini rant over. I have no idea but I presume you can wear whatever you like. Don't see any need to dress up for them!

Oooooh me too!! I have just booked for us to go and give notice on 29th August at 11.30!!

It is exciting! They told us that they only do one Saturday every month but could squeeze us in at the end of this month if we wanted. As for the dress code...i have no idea. I havent really thought about it. I would have just gone in jeans if you hadnt mentioned it but you have planted a seed...

See we can be idiots together! If anyone else could help with this that would be great. That's nice that you are making a day of it. I was thinking of maybe organising other 'weddingy' type things to do with the rest of the day! We still have to decide upon and book cake and flowers so that might be an idea!

    That's strange RaeF?

We actually booked our registrar about a year ago and had to pay a deposit then to secure the date, as that was when we booked our venue. That's probably why we haven't had that problem. Annoying though especially as you know you're booking it!

Saying that, it hasn't been the easiest of things to get sorted. I've rung them about 10 times as I can never get hold of them, there's only a switchboard number that you have to go through to be put through to the right office, not a direct line - and they're always engaged!

I also think they should have evening and weekend appointments.

Hope you get it booked soon!

Congrats Wedding Princess! Won't be long now. Yeah to be honest I think I will just shove on a pair of jeans!

I have no idea about cakes - I can't really get enthusiastic about them! I think I might just get an M&S one. Will have to ring up and see if I can maybe go in and do a tasting or something! Have booked my florist though. That was really helpful actually for colour scheme and decoration ideas, definitely made it more clear in my head!

I've already phoned both districts - getting married in a different one to where we live – so I know exactly what to do! I was getting nervous about booking the registrar and getting it wrong (I like to know exactly what I have to do!) so I called them a couple of months ago and was advised by the lovely lady there to phone at 9.30 on the Monday morning so I could get the time I wanted. We have a wedding to go to this Sunday so I decided to take Monday off and get the registrar booked and give notice. But nope, can’t give notice until the registrar has told me when we’re allowed. Well, I know when we’re allowed cos we’ve already asked and I want the appointment for AFTER I’ll have actually booked it so I can give all the details you’d want / need. Where’s your problem?!

He was a real ‘computer says no’ kind of guy as well which wound me up no end.

And in total agreement about evening / weekend appointments. I now have to have another day off when I’m ‘allowed’ to finally book the appointment. Grr!

My h2b turned up for our giving notice in jeans, t shirt and a cap as it was early in the morning and he couldn't be bothered to do his hair!

I went in my jeans ? never thought about dressing up ???

Booking the registrar and notice appointment was a doddle, must really vary around the country ??

MillyMolly the parking at Ashford was horrendous so allow plenty of time before your appointment ?

Thanks for the heads-up Juicymelons. May park in town and walk through. Still not 100% sure where the new offices are now.

Just a quick question tho, they ask for a birth certificate. I have my original, but it isn't the long birth certificate just the small one. Would that still be acceptable?

I didn't take my birth certificate, wouldn't have a clue where it is lol!

I only had to take my passport and proof of address such as utility bill and £60 ! They asked questions like OH's DOB and what is your and your father's occupation but it's very laid back, the girl we had was really funny ?

If you parked in the Wilkinsons car park it wouldn't take long to walk to, but thinking about it, it's an Adult Ed centre so it may not be packed out as courses will not have started yet ????
