Ex-employer refusing to pay me - what can I do?

Katamari, 12 November, 2008 at 20:35 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

My old boss is refusing to pay me. I left there six weeks ago now and have been told three different dates when I will recieve my final pay cheque and each time its been a no-show.

I have spoken to ACAS and they advised me to write a letter giving her 28 days to pay me, then I can take it further to a tribunal.

I know she is doing this to be deliberatley awkward and there are about 4 of us in a similar position.

Does anyone have any other ideas/advice/legal avenues we can go down to get our wages?

I think the advice from ACAS is the way to go. You can file a claim for non payment of wages. There is some more advice on this here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/Pay/DG_10027228

    Thanks for the link ?

Its just so frustrating, especially when I know she is doing this for no other reason than because she can.

I agree to dealing with it 'officially'. It might not have to go too far for the situation to be resolved. An ex-employer messed me about, and as soon as he received a letter from the tribunal people he couldn't pay me quick enough.

    Good luck!

Thanks LittleStar - hopefully a similar letter will have the same effect on my ex boss!
