Expat guide?

Scaredy-cat, 3 June, 2008 at 14:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

HI, I know when I was on here previously asking for advice about moving to Dubai a couple of people recommended a general expat guide - I seem to have lost the link so grateful if anyone could remind me of the title. I've already got Dubai explorer and the red tape guide just looking for the general guide. The move is all set to happen towards the middle of July and I'm trying to get organised!

Thanks - I think that's the one. Is it quite American - I remeber that being one of the criticisms levied at it last time?

I quite like this site and they have a version for Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain:

    http://www.expatwomanabudhabi.com/

and a google search bought back these ones specific to Dubai:

    http://www.dubaiexpat.com/

Its going to be hotter than balls when you move. The humidity in Dubai last weekend was high and horrible. Glasses steaming up etc.

Thanks all - will check out all the suggested sites - have been getting lots of useful info from expatwoman. I am telling myself that as I'm arriving in August - well last week in July - I'll have missed most of July and just need to make it to September without melting! It does get a bit cooler doesn't - I keep reading stuff about having to cool swimming pools down!

Yes, mid september it starts getting pleasant again.

They do cool the pools, but even then they are as warm as bath water. The sea is WAY too hot to even swim in. Crazy!

But remember, life out here is geared up for the heat, you'll be fine!
