expensive bar prices

It wouldn't put me off attending, but I wouldn't drink a lot if prices were high.

Could you subsidise in some way - understand you can't afford a completely free bar but you could maybe pay the first £1 or two of each drink? e.g. if someone gets a beer, they pay £3.50 and you pay £1?

Ours are very high too, i have jokingly said to my friends to have a few before or pack a bottle in ya hand bag LOL

They seem pretty standard bar prices to me but I live in London.

I wouldn't have chosen somewhere with high bar prices unless I was able to cover or subsidise the cost. If I were a guest at your wedding I could afford to pay those prices without wincing but I know plenty of my friends who'd struggle to. You know your friends and family and will have a far better understanding of their financial situation than any of us will - it really is for you to decide.

It wouldn't put me off attending, but it might be something you could warn people of in advance (this is especially important if there isn't a cashpoint nearby). You could just stick a sentence in the information booklet stating average prices, most people will get the idea. If people are going to the wedding as an excuse to get pissed, or if they're on really tight budgets, it might be a bigger deal for them. It will also depend on how much booze you give them with the meal as to how much they'll want to spend at the bar later.

My venue was chosen with the bar tariff in mind and I have a copy of it in my file so they can't hike prices up for the night. It would affect me booking a venue.

It'd not affect me going to a wedding, honestly, I went to one a while back where is was £12 for a single vodka and a single malibu with mixers so we make a break for the off licence and went and got our own and smuggled it in! Stealth mission but a fraction of the cost. Had they been reasonable prices, we'd have just bought our drinks there as planned.

I'd brown bag it all the way.

We warned our guests that the bar was pricey and loads of people smuggled stuff in the back of their car, or in hip flasks etc. Pikeys. ?

Our prices are pretty high (£10 for a g and t and half a pint!) but I have prewarned people. we are providing wine, welcome drinks and champagne. some of the guests have said they will be bringing stuff in their cars, which I dont mind - as long as they dont get caught!

On no, panic button time.? We don't drink often and until this second it is not something that had crossed my mind. Everything else has rooms, food, allergies even parking! I really really hope they are reasonable. (Serious finger crossing time!)

I think if you go to a wedding you expect to pay more than your average bar...in saying this we are asking for bar prices before booking so that we can rule out anywhere with ridiculous prices...it wouldn't stop me attending but it would stop me drinking as much, for example i went to a birthday recently and a single mixer was around £5 (usually around £3 where i live)...this was a bit of a shock and we all ended up just buying a few drinks in the end and felt like we had to ration them a bit more haha!

we are having welcome drink, glass of wine with the meal and champagne toast so the afternoon guests will get alchol. Not all our guests are big drinkers but i want everyone to enjoy our day and feel able to have as much as they want to drink.

I think we will go with our second reception venue local to church, resonable drinks prices and we have more room to add the little touches insted of been a set package

IT wouldn't put me off attending but I would moan about it lol! Not to the bride and groom! My daughters christening the drinks were expensive and people just moaned and left earlier to carry on drinking elsewhere!

My friend gets married tomorrow and the venue have told her that any bottles they find which are not available to buy at the wedding will be charged to the bride and groom!? I'm not sure how on earth they would implement this 'threat' as for all the B&G know, the venue could plant bottles. They should just charge less greedy drinks prices in the first place.

This is my biggest worry about our wedding. The bar prices seem extortionate to me. I don't want people to be having to ration themselves because of the prices but we can't afford an open bar.

If we can find the money we may make some drinks vouchers or something to try and help people out a bit.

I was thrilled that the bar prices at our wedding were very reasonable (£2.50 for a glass of wine, £2.50 for a pint). I think this is because it wasn't a hotel so they weren't overly concerned about making a killing on the bar.

My guests really appreciated it - loads of people mentioned how little they spent.

When I go to a wedding, if the bar prices are extremely expensive, it definitely affects how much we drink as we just can't afford to go mad on really high bar prices.

It wouldn't put me off attending but we wouldn't drink much! We went to OHs brother's wedding recently in a very plush country club type hotel & we barely drank anything as it was so dear. We did wish he'd warned us beforehand.

I am REALLY REALLY SHOCKED that places are allowed to do this. Is it a school????? ?

All venues seem to charge a premium on drinks just because its a wedding.........best option take your own in a handbag and just buy coke all night
