Extensions

tizmelou, 30 August, 2011 at 18:31 Posted on Planning 0 3

I'm getting way a head of myself here (pun intended) as venue not even booked yet however I've been thinking I fancy extenstions for the day as I'd like myhair kind of buffay on top with a tiara and then falling in very loose waves - wish I could find a pick but I cant yet - anyhow does anyone have any advice re extensions? I think I'd like them to last for the honeymoon not just the one day but have heard permanent ones really ruin your hair?

any advice appreciated as I might have to reconsider and seriously start growing my hair but I don't know if thats possible - I'm a dyed blonde by the way if that makes a difference! (I just get a friend to trim my hair and colour it myself so dont have a hairdresser as such yet to discuss this with)

My sister is a hairdresser and is very very experienced with extensions. Her advice would be to get them done proper. She CANNOT abide cheap extensions where you can see the bonds and they just hang under the natural hairline and she can tell from miles away when someone is wearing cheap or poorly done extensions. Her best friend has extensions in all the time. They do not ruin your hair if they are looked after properly and obviously are taken out and updated as and when they should be. My sister uses a brand called Racoon and her best friend who is VERY fussy loves them and they look beautiful when in. So I suppose my advice is go for it, but make sure you pay for decent ones!!!

Forgot to add, you can have them just put in for the day. She did this with my hair when I was a bridesmaid once and they were kind of clipped in, but again make sure the hairdresser has done this before and the qulaity of the hair is good!

Iv had so many diff types of extension. The one i would recommend for temporary use, is a weft stuck on with hair tape. It lasts about 2 weeks before it starts coming loose. Then you can usually just soften glue with conditioner and remove. A hairdresser should advise you properly of course.

The individual bonds are beautiful in, as if you have different tones in your hair, a professional can match up strands. I had raccoon hair extensions using this method and they were about £500, so very expensive.

At present i buy my own weft of hair as i know what colour matches mine exactly, and clip them in when i need to. Cheap and long lasting, as you can reuse.

THank you girls, I'm happy to pay for quality - I'd rather skimp on other things :-)
