Extortion by Virgin - anyone else do this?

RedB, 18 November, 2008 at 11:32 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

Hi

We have phone and broadband with Virgin. A few weeks ago they called to say that our account was over its credit limit of £200 and we needed to pay 50% of the outstanding balance immediately or we would be cut off. Our balance was high because my H had been overseas for 2 weeks and I had been calling him. After a long argument with them on their policy, I ended up paying. Then yesterday they called again, with the same issue, the balance was over the credit limit and they needed additional payment. This is all despite the fact that we pay by direct debit on time every month, and have never missed a payment. We were also not told about the whole credit limit issue when we signed up last year (although I imagine it was in the T&C somewhere, so yes, we should have read them carefully) I was confused as to how we could be over the credit limit again so asked them to email the latest bills to me so I could check them. This morning I try and log on meaning to check them and the thieving ********s have cut us off already. After a long time on the phone to them complaining, I have still ended up paying extra as if I didn't we would have no phone and broadband and I work from home.

It just feels like they are treating us as bad debtors/criminals, even though we are not actually late with any payments. They phone us up and demand money, and when they didn't get it immediately, they cut us off less than 24 hours later. Are Virgin alone in doing this, or will I encounter it if we switch to someone else?

I have no comment about the virgin issue, save for suggesting that you use www.1899.com for overseas calls, which should save you a fortune.

I had a similar thing happen with a really high mobile bill years ago so they arent the only people to do it. Its bad that they cut you off so fast though.
