Eyebrows......

septemberbride2011, 30 March, 2011 at 20:23 Posted on Planning 0 20

I've never really paid much attention to my eyebrows but have noticed that fab eyebrows make a huge difference so want to get mine in ship shape for the wedding. I pluck them slightly (as I hate the skinny ones!) but noticed that they need a bit of definition (not black marker pen style like Jordan lol!) just wondered what you girlies do with your brows and how's best to enhance them? I have dark brown hair so they'd need to be dark brownish - any advice appreciated! xx

Ive only recently started getting mine waxed and tinted and they make me look so different! I have had a lot of people giving nice comments about them! My hair is black and I have them tinted that colour too but you can get the tint in lots of different colours. I must say the waxing killed the first time! x

It took a while to have mine shaped into a decent shape following my teenage years of Tweezer abuse! But i've been having mine waxed for about 6 years now.

Mine are quite thick/dark so all I need to do is to use is a slick of Vaseline / Elizabeth Arden skin protectant which holds them in place and make them look slicker.

I'd ask your make up lady if your having one as you can get special brow pencils which do give the natural look - Jordons are tattooed on hence the marker look.

I can't believe I've never really paid much attention to eyebrows before! I'm lucky as mine were never 'slug' like but always plucked them slightly to give them some shape, thinking of getting a brow pencil or some sort of kit but have no clue what to get - would hate to have streak marks on my face when it rains! I'd tint them but they go a little bit thinner on the edges so need filling out/defining xx

Not used it myself, but a quick google found this:

    https://www.boots.com/en/No7-Precision-Brow-Pencil_51158/

The No7 lady in boots might be able to help (or a woman at another one of the stands in a boots/debenhams/John lewis)

I'd let them grow for a couple of weeks and have them threaded- it really adds shape and definition to your eyebrows. If you don't like the end result, maybe try having them waxed for the wedding. I've never plucked my own (mostly due to be too much of a wimp!) and have found that threading is the best form of hair removal as it lasts a bit longer. HTH x

You get brilliant shape with threading - I had loads of positive comments when I got mine done. They can be so precise - removing single hairs that dare to grow in slightly the wrong way! I would suggest starting a while before your wedding though - that gives them time to get into a really good shape. Tinting is good too. My eyebrows get fairer towards the outer edges so tinting evens them out and makes them much more defined.

Have you thought about having HD brows done ?

My eyebrows are very fair, literally no colour, and all I have ever done is have them threaded.

As I have been having make up trials and beauty treatments in the run up to the wedding a lot of the 'professionals' have been asking if I ever thought about tinting them and what a difference it would make to my face.

So, 2 weeks I took the plunge and booked in to have them HD'd. It is a a defined process, which all trained HD technicians do in the same way apparently, and includes tinting, waxing, threading and plucking. It was created by Nilam Patel, who is the lady that does all the celebs eyebrows apparently (including tattooing Jordans)

The tint can be personalised to your colourings so mine are a brown colour and although I came out of the salon and was very shocked and hated them, once I got used to them (32 years without eyebrows so it was a big change), now I absolutely love them and I am booked in next week to have them re-done.

I made such a difference to my face that the following morning at work some people didnt recognise me and actually walked up to my desk looking for me and walked away thinking someone else was sitting there !!!

I would definitely recommend them and will now be having them done regularly, even after the wedding.

I sadly am a bit of a wuss so I have mine waxed instead of plucking them!

I do think they looks loads better shaped though!

I have fairly small eyes so having them shapes makes them look a little bit bigger!

I went through a stage of having mine threaded, but it ticked me too much. The hairs being removed really irritated my eyelids with the back and forth motion, so I probably only did it 3 times before reventing back to trusty waxing.

Thanks girls, I have vaseline so going to try this out in the morning :-) I'm also going to try threading as it seems to be the rage! If I don't like it there's always waxing.... I've got 5 months til the wedding so better start trying out things now. I might pop to Boots and check out the brow definers, my friend suggested Benefit as they have an eyebrow kit. Who'd have thought eyebrows can make such a difference! xx

Defined eyebrows definately make you look very 'polished'. On every bride I work on I first brush their brows through with an eyebrow comb (a old toothbrush will do). I then use a Mac EyeBrow pencil called Eye Brow. They come in lots of colours. Match as near to your hair as you can. If you can't always go a shade lighter so your brows don't look too fake. Just draw in little strokes following the angle that the hairs of the eyebrows grow in. Juliet

So, following this post last week I had my eyebrows threaded at the weekend. It hurt a lot more than my usual waxing, and the results are exactly the same?!? But that said, my eyebrows were already well shaped following years of waxing.

I'm taking OHs mom to have hers waxed for the first time this week, so will report back following that as to what difference that makes.

I too had my eyebrows threaded at the weekend following this post, after having only ever plucked them myself before and was really pleased with the results, the shape is a lot more natural (have been trying to grow them back after over plucking),i will still need to use a coloured product on my eyebrows as they are a bit gappy from several peircings but generally look loads better

HOWEVER considering I pluck my eyebrows all the time i still found this really painful and a word of warning to anyone getting them done, i had mine done in the middle of a day out shopping with my mum and they went REALLY red and the lady said not to put make up on them as it would irritate them so i had to walk around with a ridiculous red visor type effect for the rest of the day ?" />!!!

Wow threading isn't meant to make them red - that's one of the main advantages of having it done over waxing I thought - mine weren't in the least bit red, to the point where OH asked when I got back "Did you not have your eyebrows done then?".

Completely OT, but when OH and I were shopping, you know the stands in the city centre? There was a woman having her chin and top lip threaded on one! I felt like I had joined in on a very sensitive thing but she was sat there outside Republic and Primark!!

really!! the woman before me went really red too, did think it was a bit odd as no one else had mentioned that and the places that do it are always in shopping centres and i have never seen anyone else walking around looking like some kind of alien beacon!! Also it REALLY hurt to the point my eyes were watering, my mum who has it done said it isnt meant to hurt, I have a pretty high pain threshold too (or thought I did)!

Maybe try somewhere else next tine then!?!

I heard threading hurt like hell so thats why I havent tried it as I am a big wuss. I havent tried waxing either due to the same reason! I only tweeze mine.

I use Rimmel's eyebrown pencil which has a helpful brush on the cap. I've had comments since I started used it that my eyebrows look thicker.

I think I'll stick to my tweezers and eyebrow pencil for the wedding!

Yep sounds like you should try somewhere else.

(I think) My beautician is awesome and TBH it did hurt a teeny bit as I was frowning, but the thing that bothered me the most was the Tickly-ness of having the million and one hairs dropped on my face - yuk! (I prefer the cleaness of waxing for sure).

Personally for me - Waxing hurts a lot less than Tweezering (if that's a word). I hate it when she has to tweezer out a small hair post waxing as it hurts so much more.

As I said i've had them done for a long time and I can barely feel it now. The first time I had it done I went home to tell my Dad I felt like i'd been "slapped around the face" but it wasn't that bad - I was an overdramatic 18 year old.

Just and update, I went into Debenhams and wandered off to the Benefit counter and ended up getting my brows waxed. I bought some brow zings which is amazing and going back in 4 weeks as I need to grow the inner corners of my brows as I'd been plucking them in the wrong place!

Thank goodness for the eyebrow kit as I've managed to conceal the bald bits lol! Can't recommend them enough and it didn't hurt one bit (mind you I'd had my braces tightened the day before and every single tooth in my head was hurting so probably took the pain away from the waxing!) x
