Facebook Question

chids, 31 July, 2009 at 08:57 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

If you post a comment on someone's wall then delete before you know that they've read it, does the person still recieve the message in their email inbox as a new message notification?

I've been having a silly diagreement with the MIL (who is barmy but then who's MIL isn't) and made a comment on her wall, then i retracted it knowing that she wouldn't have seen it as i did it really early this morning. I decided that i wasn't getting into a childish confrontation with her for the sake of H. Will she still be able to see the incoming message in her email inbox even though it doesn't show up on her wall anymore.

Sorry for the ramble.

It will depend on her settings. If she gets email notification of wall postings then she will get the email regardless of whether you've deleted it or not. She may not have that option set, in which case she will never know!

Just tested this on my Dad's wall and he did get the email. Sorry, that's probably not the answer you wanted.

Thanks grumple. You're right not the answer but never mind.

I would actually love to tell her what i think which is part of what was in the post on the wall, but then chickened out because i didn't want H to have to put up with his mother going on and on all the time, and i'm forever having to bite my tongue because of her, which sometimes i find really hard. I wouldn't mind but it's something so silly that she's mis-understood and now she's going on about how she's having such a hard life. But whenever someone says something that she disagrees with it always come back to the fact that she's had such a hard life. She hasn't by the way, she works as a lolly pop lady 2 hours a day at the most, she sleeps for the rest of the time or is on facebook or watching bloody top gear.

Woah! That's turned into a bit of a rant, i'll stop now. Sorry

AFAIK the email just tells you you've had a wall post, but not what it says. So you could say that you'd posted on her wall accidentally when you'd been meaning to post on someone elses...?

Now if that is the case then that would be ok. I could just pass it off as a post that i'd done by mistake.

DebbieD - i'm pretty sure that she doesn't know i post on here so i can moan about her to my hearts content. I wish she never got into facebook, that was the other place that i could moan about her too, but i've lost that. I better not show her here.

I'm afraid my wall notifications include the text.

Chids if you want to test it I have changed my notification settings, post on my wall and delete it and I'll see what comes through.

Just got a text msg off the crazy MIL, she's seen the post. Oh well, We'll just leave it at that, i'll ignore from now, it makes my life a hell of a lot easier. In fact the only way we communicate is via facebook or text so i'll just stop that too.

Oh well, often it's good to actually get things off your chest rather than quietly seethe. I stopped speaking to my MIL for 6 months because I couldn't trust myself not to tell her and FIL what I really thought of them, it's all calmed down now but at the time I was livid. Although I never actually told her I wasn't speaking to her, just screened my calls and planned to go away everytime they visited. I had to step away and it helped immensely.
