Facebook- would you cull?

Iris, 23 April, 2009 at 12:51 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 20

I'm going to have a cull. I can't be doing with "Cant b arsed 2do oat.." "Cant believe shes up,dressed, pegged washin out!int it great 2 hav summit 2 get up 4!!2 c the brats bk at school yipee." etc etc updates from one person. You'd have to cull wouldn't you? Especially as it's someone I haven't seen or spoken to for over 20 years.

Anyone else fancy culling the deadwood too?

What I've done is blocked updates from some people whilst keeping them friends - they're 2 sisters of my H and one of his nephews.

I don't want to know that his nephew enjoys morning sex enough to join a group eschewing the virtues of it.

And I don't want to see all the stupid, inane quizzes his sisters take.

    Could you do that instead?

That's what I've done - blocked updates from certain people when they post every 5 minutes...

I think "summit" would have done it for me. It is the TOP OF A MOUNTAIN!

There, I've had my rage for today ?

I might block I suppose. I also get the rage with people who's updates always end in "pmsl".

Or this every few words - Smiley tongue

Good idea about restricting updates, one of my FB friends is always doing quizzes, and I keep getting updated about how several of them are doing at Scrabble.

I went through my friends list and culled about 15 people last week. There may be more to come, one in particular is doing my head in with her constant neediness and attention seeking. She updates her status every hour or so and it's really is a load of whinging tripe.

Cull, you really will feel better for it.

I have an old colleague on my "friends" who constantly uses txt spk, and seems to either always be in the pub or watching football. Time for a culling.

They are East Midlanders, how did you guess?

Let's all cull together. I've already got rid of "is lighting a candle. lol" "is having a bath.lol" "is going out. lol" etc etc lol.

I spent hours last week trying to work out how you block people's updates - as much as I might like to, I can't cull OH's sister but she's driving me barmy with her needy updates. Please someone give me instructions how to do it?!

I'd probably cull, but it's just as easy to hide their updates - unless you don't want them to be able to see your profile, in which case, cull cull cull and don't even think about it.?

What I can't quite cope with on facebook is lol meaning lots of love, not laugh out loud. My MiL recently sent my BiL a message about his uncle, who recently passed away, and it ended in lol, which looked so inappropriate to my eyes, though I know it wasn't meant like that.

OI'm probably not in a position to judge as the majority of my Facebook statuses are pretty vacuous and some people I only keep on Facebook as an alternative to watching soaps, but that's not going to stop me.

There are a few people I went to school with who constantly post about their relationships. Within a day they can swing from being madly in love to bitching big-stylee. The most annoying of these is when they post something along the lines of "[silly bint] is really pissed off with a certain someone". You they get a bunch on comments such as "R u ok hun?" "wots happnd hun?" and then the original person will tell them they don't want to talk about it on Facebook and they'll give them a ring - B, b, but <brain explodes>.

One of the above is also forever talking about her youngest child, which is absolutely understandable but if I've read "[annoying FBer] has been up all night with [made-up name] tha lil buggar" once, I've read it a million times. Why?! Why misspell it? It's THE, it's easier to type than 'tha', same goes for bugger. Also, you're not in 'tha' garden, you're in THE garden <scream>

That morning sex group is grim. Why would so many thousand people want to let the world that they had it before work?

I may set up a Felching group just to see how many people join, not having a clue.

Anyone know Nick's details, I may send him an invite?
