Fake flowers.....

MrsB88, 9 January, 2014 at 10:39 Posted on Planning 0 17

Im thinking of having foam flowers for my centre pieces and down the isle. I thought they sounded awful until i looked up 'foam flowers wedding red roses' on ebay and they look lovely!! Myself, bridesmaids and the groomsmen will all have real flowers.

Anyone else thinking of using fake flowers?

I am having mostly artificial flowers. My sister did for her wedding and it meant she and her bridesmaids all got to keep their bouquets (her bouquet is boxed up nicely with her dress) and they looked gorgeous. Plus they were way cheaper and far easier to organise!

I am not really a flower person so I'm not having many as decoration at the reception but whatever I do have will be fake and from ebay. The only place I may have real flowers is in the church but still need to discuss that with the church florist.

I think it's a great idea and as long as you like how they look then why not ?

Yes definitely. They are cheaper and can be kept afterwards. Also, I want a really quirky black and red bouquet which would be hard to do with fresh flowers so I am just going to get all the components from Ebay and invent the bouquet myself!

Hi MrsB, My sister had fake flowers (shes terrified of flying insects so didnt want real ones) the only thing I would say is that although they didnt have any in the church, the bouquet was a teardrop shape, and when it was put on the top table during the meal, it just didnt sit right. The flowers didnt move at all, so I'd maybe be wary of where you buy them from and make sure they're good quality.

Apart from the keeping them forever and getting the colours, artificial flowers have lots of benefits on the day.
They are lightweight, some real bouquets I have come across are very heavy. Also real flowers always seem to be sprayed and covered in water and because they are kept in water the stems are soaking wet and so have to be dried before anyone wants to hold them anywhere near their dress.
Artificial flowers don't get bruised when you put them down so you don't have to be so careful with them all day.
Artificial flowers don't attract wasps or bees, droop or get snapped, I I've seen so many oasis type real bouquets that get the stems snapped or the flowers just drop out during the day.
Whatever the reason you go for real flowers you have to be prepared to look after them all day.

I had silk flowers for all bouquets, buttonholes and centre pieces. People were surprised when they found out the bouquets and buttonholes weren't real.

Personally for me I thought it was a good decision, I've seen so many wilted buttonholes at weddings that it put me off real flowers.

Fake flowers are so much more realistic these days and come in a few more different colours than real ones you are most welcome to have a nose at our site Smiley smile you can keep them afterwards and have them as soon as you like whereas fresh although smell fantastic you are limited to some seasons, stock levels, prices and can only have near to your big day.. hope this helps and good luck Smiley smile

wow those flowers look great....and so cheap! are they silk flowers? i was planning on getting my bouquets from patchwork bride on folksy. she does lovely fabric and button bouquets. then i have a florist for the bridesmaid bouquets and centre pieces. She actually got married in the same venue as me so I thought she would be perfect, however she has barely replied to any of my emails and hasn't given me any indication of prices so maybe I will just go for these ones. I think it will be easier to get flowers to match my bridesmaid dresses as well.

I'm having fake flowers for my day, I suffer from severe allergic asthma and the pollen from flowers can make me ill so I don't have a choice in that department but as I've been looking around I've found some gorgeous bouquets for red and black roses which I couldn't have with real flowers. I recently went to a family friend's wedding and the button holes for the best man and groom wee ruined by the night, squashed after endless hugs, put me off a bit.
I do have one question though? How long before your day should you buy them? Considering if we bought them on the internet they have to be delivered?
    Thanks!!

Guess it depends on the supplier but as they are made to order its probably best to order a couple of months before the wedding. most suppliers seem to recommend how early you should order on their websites

Because artificial flowers are so popular, you need to book just the same as fresh flowers so around 6 months before the wedding or sooner if marrying in the Summer months. Hope that helps.

I've just thought of another thing to add to my list. You see, when I get to the bride in the morning the artificial flowers are already there so I have never thought too much about it.
But on reading this thread -- of course !, they are artificial and so that means that you can get them weeks in advance and if anything is wrong you have the chance to put it right and also its knowing that you DO actually have them in your hands.
I have seen so much stress when the fresh flowers are supposed to be delivered and they are not there on time, leading to frantic searching for phone numbers and just generally adding to what can already be a stressful time for you, and that stress that it creates does linger even after the fresh flowers have arived 10 min late.
