false eyelashes

knitting_vixen, 8 April, 2011 at 12:04 Posted on Planning 0 33

Thinking of wearing false eyelashes for a hen do.

I have never worn them before- any recommendations for good ones that won't come off after 5 minutes?

Use a pair of tweezers for one end & a damp cotton bud for the other & if you can get someone else to put them on for you!

    Eyelure!!

they not that hard putting on once youve practised , just need a steady hand!! tweezers and cotton buds as already stated to 'push' the lashes on to your lash line but as trcikers said, good glue is the key!

Oh & make sure you let the glue dry a bit so it goes tacky & usually clear otherwise they won't stick x

I have tried several times and can't get the bleeders on. My normal eyelashes get in the way. Maybe I don't need them but I LOVE the way they look.

I have lost count of the amount of pairs I have binned, just can't put them on especially my left eye. Definately extensions for the big day!

I normally use the eyelure pre-glued ones, they are soooo much easier to use than the ones you glue, I can never get the glue tackiness right!

I also give myself an hour to do them, if I have to rush I get it wrong.

I had semi permanent falsies for the wedding, they looked amazing but I found them quite uncomfortable on honeymoon, they dont like suncream, chlorine, salt water or snorkle masks!!!! I ended up pulling most of them out, along with my own!!!

Oooh, you ladies are putting me off! May get some and have a practice.

Luckily, I was planning on getting extensions for the big day myself.

I had eyelash extensions put on and really didnt get on with them. So much so that I took them all off (and pulled some off along with my own) within a week. I really didnt get on with them so I would recommend a trial first if you are considering them and havent had them before. I'm so glad I had a trial. I wasnt planning on doing so, but there was a Groupon voucher so thought I might as well.

I've bought some eylure ones from Superdrug to try. A friend uses the individual ones (that fan out) and swears by them so I got some of those and also the strips so I can try both. At least with these you can put mascara on them if you need to!

I use the Eylure ones but the individual lashes as I find them much easier to apply and a bit less draggish. Not a five minute job though. They are easier to apply but still takes a while.

To extend this topic slightly (if I may), what mascaras would anyone recommend for massive fat lashes. I am using Maybelline Stiletto at the moment, which is alright but more for making lashes longer than plumper. I don't need length, I need width, oo-er.

I would also recommend Eyelure and MAC strip lashes. As another poster has said, wait until the glue goes tacky and then swoosh the strip lash through. Use tweezers to apply and look down into the mirror.

As for mascara, I'd try Lancome, Max Factor or Clinique. Sometimes they also do samples. I would avoid YSL mascara.

My recommendation would be Estee Lauder's Sumptuous Extreme. I ❤️ it. You can have them quite subtle or build it up for really thick lashes.

I have also tried eyelash extensions in the past and whilst they looked fab, I found them a tad annoying at times. I wouldn't rule out not ever having them again but to be honest, I think I'd rather pay out for a good mascara instead.

If the OP has a look, there is a recent thread about eyelash extensions - (Nouveau/ Jinnylash and the like) on here. Has info about them and also pics.

I actually use the Girls Aloud ones - I have tried both 'Kimberly' and 'Nadine' (I think these are also Eyelure)!! They look mahoosive when you put them on and feel a bit weird to begin with but in the photos my eyes look amazing!

For the wedding though I am getting my CBM, who is very handily a trained beautician, to apply the proper individual jobbies.

Perhaps a stupid question - do you stick them to your eyelid or eyelashes? My SIL wears them and looks fantastic, but whenever I try, you can always see a gap between my real lashes and the strip - what am I doing wrong?!

I don't mind the eyelashes looking dramatic for the hen do. It is vintage themed, we are getting our hair done at a vintage salon and wearing vintage clothes (50s for me obvs).

You stick them to your eyelid and I always recommend binding the false lashes to your lashes with mascara. I'd use a liquid liner before putting the lashes on and that will help cover up any gaps. You need to apply them as close to your natural lash line as possible.

Knitting_vixen - your hen do sounds fab!

Cottage weekend sounds lovely too. Have you got your 50s togs yet for your SIL's hen?

I am looking forward to what I hope will be a chilled hen do!

I have a dress! I love vintage stuff and have a few vintage dresses anyway. I am wearing a light blue 50s dress with a light blue petticoat.
