pet82, 1 January, 2010 at 20:33 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hello all and happy new year i git engaged last night, so happy. The problem is that i dont get on with mt dad so he wont be giving me away. My godfather has said he will give me away but im in two minds as to my grandad doing it. Is it wring if either of them do. Also im not going to be having my dad speak on my behalf so it will just be my o/h ide saying a speach. would it be weird if my brother or grandad spoke on my behalf. Its all ready stressing me out and ive only been engaged a few hours lol

    Hi,

I had a similar problem, as I don't get on with my Father so he wasn't invited to wedding.

I walked down alone, and arrived in the car with my mum and my stepdad. We didn't really bother with traditional speeches, so wasn't a problem.

Don't worry about trying to stick by the "rules" but do what suits you and H2B x

    Congratulations on your engagement!

I have a very similar situation - I dont speak to my dad so my dad and his side of the family wont be coming - Im going to ask my stepdad to give me away and with regards to speeches, whoever wants to speak can but I am not expecting my stepdad to make a speech if he doesnt want to...I hate all the traditional side of things!

I wouldnt worry about what is normal or traditional, just have the day exactly how you want - maybe by involving your godfather and your grandad and ur brother! You'l have a great day!!!

Hello, I too don't speak to my dad, and he certainly won't be getting an invite. His parents (my grandparents) will be invited, and they'll no doubt lobby for my dad to be involved. I refuse to worry about it, as it's my wedding and I'll invite who I want to be there.

My brother's giving me away. He's said he doesn't want to do the traditional 'father of the bride' speech - I'm currently telling him he has to, but I'm only half joking. I'm not sure we'll bother with the traditional order of speeches. I'm with the others - don't worry about it - it's your wedding, do it the way you want.

You can have whoever you want walking you down the aisle and speaking on your behalf, it's your day after all Smiley smile

    Congratulations Smiley smile
