Family Photos

2013_Bride_, 22 July, 2013 at 16:44 Posted on Planning 0 9

How did you work your family photographs - who did you involve etc?

I've just chosen to involve parents, siblings (and their families) and my grandparent.

I can't decide though whether I should have a photo with siblings (and families) on their own, or as a big group including parents.

So far I feel like I'm just keeping the same people there and adding more on - for example photo with my parents, add on my sister, then add on my Nan?!

I don't know whether I should have a photo of us with my sister, then a separate one with my Nan, etc?

I guess what has made me do it the way I have is because its not often you get 'group' shots with just 3 people?

    1. Us and my son

    2. Us and the wedding party

    3. Me and the BMs

    4. H and the ushers/BM

    5. Us and my parents

    6. Us and his parents

    7. Us and all parents

    8. Everyone

That was it. I didn't enjoy that part of it, found it boring (even though it was brief), wanted to get back to the party. Some of those above weren't planned and just happened.

They way we usually do it is to start with a larger family group then take people away rather than add people in - we find it easier. As to which ones to have it depends how important the family shots are to you/other family members and the time you have to do them! I would recommend not having too many combinations though.

I was gong to say just this. I often help round people up for photos and its much easier to start with a big group and get smaller than the other way round.

If you wanted to have a few variations done, just appoint the best man to help the TOG or something, so you can be super organised and get the pics done in a timely matter. Then you'll have more to look back on and remember Smiley winking

We're having all the "standard" photographs but I asked the photographer if we could break people down to smaller families so we could have the photos printed off and send them a copy on a thankyou card afterwards. For example we will have me, OH, gran and grandad. Me, OH, mum and dad. Me, OH, auntie and uncle. There about 30 in total but the photographer was fine.

Not that I like having my photo taken - its the part im dreading the most ha xxx

You will almost certainly need someone good at organisation to keep this flowing. Give a trusted usher (or someone else) the list and the responsibility.

Yes definitely - sounds like a job for the ushers!! Just make sure it's what you want, 9 times out of 10 when a couple gives us a long list of group photos they're the ones who get bored partway through and wish they were spending the time mingling with their guests instead ?

I have always suggested that all ushers plus the best man have copies of any list. These images can be completed ell and quickly with the right approach. Work out what is important to you and what you would want in your album. If you don't want it in your album, ask yourself if you want to give the time up to take the shot.....

Ushers are good but I have found bridesmaids even better in getting the people where you want them and on time.
