Fancy writing on invite envelopes? Yes or no?

Lizzywills, 1 May, 2014 at 11:40 Posted on Planning 0 10

I feel like I've got a question a day lately, but I do value other people's opinions.

How is everyone addressing their envelopes? Are you printing labels, handwriting them yourselves, using someone with fancy handwriting?

i was happy to sit and write them myself, in my best writing, but I just asked my bm and she used a fancy calligrapher (but that was 17 years ago)

does it matter? Or am I just finding more things to worry about? Lol

I don't think it really matters, nice handwriting is nice of course, but not everyone can write neatly.

I've bought some Avery transparent labels and then designed the labels to match the invitations, then just put all the names and address on them. They looked really lovely for the Save the Date cards and becasue they were transparent they didn't look like labes. Looked like the envelopes had been specially printed too - which in effect they had Smiley smile

You could of course just print directly onto the envelopes finding a nice/matching font as the invitations.

I'm just gonna handwrite them. I did consider the idea of finding someone who does calligraphy but I was like, I'm just making work for myself now.

I just hand wrote ours. My writing isn't too bad but certainly not brilliantly neat either. Most people will barely even notice the envelopes.

Doesn't matter - they get ripped open and thrown in the bin. I didn't bother and no-one has expressed deep disappointment in me lol

My save the dates went out this week and I just hand wrote them.. (not the most amazing handwriting but legible and neat) but the invitations are being written by my soon to be Father in Law and thank god... he is a perfectionist, a calligrapher and has just had a £600 pen... yes PEN for his 60th birthday so that he can write our stationary with it! Result!

I did receive a fancy calligraphy one once. I noticed it, said "oooh, fancy!", and then it went in the bin.

I was nice enough to mention to the bride that I liked it though ?, and asked whether she'd done it herself or not. She'd hired a calligrapher. Great if your budget has no limit. To be honest, if you're hand writing them and want them to look fancy, just practice a ridiculous new hand-writing calligraphy-esque style on a piece of blank paper 10 times. No swirly stuff (you'll end up messing them up), just over-the-top large capitals and jutting sharp sweeping lines etc.

I tried that and I thought they looked great. I now do it on all my birthday cards, LOL

I wouldnt risk it as letters these days are auto- read by machine, and I would worry that they may not be getting there, 17 years ago it would of been a human eye
