FAO Monkey Mavis - one more question, sorry!

Hi Monkey Mavis

I've got a question for you, if you don't mind. We've been told to keep our dog in a quiet place and not to walk him, etc, in order to prevent his retinas tearing. Usually he is in an outside dog kennel when we are not around, i.e. when we are at work and when we go to bed. I think putting him to sleep is fine, as he knows to sleep at night, etc.

Not sure what to do in day come Monday though. Would it be best to settle him in the house while at work? He'd have a wait a while to go to the toilet, and we were told he might go more often due to the medication. Or should we put him in the kennel as usual? He has his own seperate section with an indoor bed and outdoor run. I think he sleeps for much of the day anyway. I'm not sure what to do for the best.

Also, would it be OK to amuse him with a rawhide chew? I wasn't sure if vibrations from crewing cuold be dangerous in this situation!

Many thanks, I'm sorry to pester you, but your advice is really appreciated at this worrying time.

O would say probably to keep with his usual routine. It is possible that being inside when he usually is in his kennel, may make him more agitated.

A rawhide chew may not be ideal as he may put a lot of force into chewing at it and be tugging at it etc. Maybe a Kong filled with tinned dog food that he can lick at - put in the freezer before so it takes longer!!! He wouldn't be pulling at that.

However - if he is usually pretty settled in the day then just do what you normally do.

    Hugs xx

Thank you Monkey Mavis. I think I'll ask the neighbour just to pop his head over the fence a few times on Monday to see what he is up to.

I have a couple of kongs so that sounds like a good idea, thanks!
