Fashion help

I want to get some new clothes. Having looked online and in catalogues there's very little floating my boat.

I'm nearly 40, 5ft 8ins tall, I don't have long legs and although my legs are shapely from the calves down my thighs are biggish and the proportions make me look like Max Wall if I wear leggings (well I did in the 80s anyway). I also don't like most of the 80s stuff because of memories of the first time around. Everything I'm looking at appears to be photographed in mid summer and I'm struggling to translate the looks into "chucking it down, freezing cold, pushing a buggy" . I'm athletic build, broad shoulders but generally slim- a size 12/14 hoping to end up more 12ish as I'm on a diet. Have a bit of a baby tummy still.

I'm wondering about skinny jeans/trousers or thick tights instead of leggings. Perhaps with long boots to alter the proportion of big thigh to skinny ankle.

I would like to wear more skirts and dresses. I like long tops/tunics though now I'm getting slimmer I don't want to wear big cover-all stuff quite so often as before.

I'm really not sure where to look. I love White Stuff but it's a bit overpriced for my budget. I'm on a more Dotty P budget I suppose. I've got the Littlewoods and Next catalogues (more as inspiration than necessarily to buy from) I like the "South" and "Savoir" ranges in Littlewoods.

Recommend me what to get and where to get it from!!!

Joe Browns have some tunics in atm, bit different but not too out there https://www.joebrowns.co.uk/ I like their stuff generally, though I think they cater more for taller people (longer legs and tunics etc), at 5"2 I'm not exactly their target market
