fashion help purlease!

Hello all,

I've just bought this dress for a wedding, but am a bit stuck as to shoes and a shrug-type thing to go with it.

Here is the dress: http://www.asos.com/Oasis/Oasis-Sequin-Embellished-Shift-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=634816&SearchQuery=oasis&Rf-100=Dresses+-+Evening&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Black

I will also be wearing this fascinator: https://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10001_62290_1030101_-1

Does anyone have any suggestions, please? I don't really want to go down the pashmina/scarf route as I find them a bit annoying.

? in advance

x

I really dislike pashmina / shrugs / wraps so I'd brave it and go without.

As for shoes I'd go with some killer pewter coloured heels, possible gladiator or shoe boot type. Having said that the whole outfit will be very dark....

Is it a summer wedding? Day time?

TBH that dress, while very cool in itself, is not particularly weddingy imo. I would leave off the fascinator, I don't think it goes. Maybe go for a plain cropped cardigan in black, and silver ballet flats?

    Thanks both.

yes it is a daytime wedding - i wasn't sure how 'weddingy' it was either but it's the only dressy dress i've seen that i really like and doesn't look horrific on me - seems to be slim pickings out there at the moment!

flats would be an option if i had better legs, but sadly i don't, so i think i need a bit of a heel. when i tried it on I was wearing ballet-style shoes but with a kitten heel. has anyone seen shoes like that in silver or black?

Sparklejunkie, may I ask how old you are?

I'm sorry but the more I look at that dress, the more I think that it really isn't appropriate for a daytime, summer wedding, and unless you are v young I'm not sure you can get away with it.

    I'm 28... not that ancient, I wouldn't have said!

it honestly looks nice on and not as short as it looks in the pictures (i'm 5' 4'')

They wouldn't go at all SJ.

Sophie, I'm guessing mid 20s, very much like the model actually.

I'm sure it looks fab on, it's just such an eveningy/cocktaily dress.

My suggestions are based solely on what I like, and would wear again, and not what constitutes wedding garb (much to the horror of every bride and groom whose weddings I have attended, no doubt!):

The dress is very cute, and I'm sure it's less butt-skimming on you if you're 5'4" ?

Mmm, i know - a lot of the wedding style stuff (for guests) i've seen recently in the shops and in magazines has been more along these lines though, there didn't seem to be much else out there, bar the eighties nightmare neon stuff. maybe i'm just shopping in the wrong places! :-)

anyhoo, i'm happy with the dress, it's just the accompanying things.

KB3, thanks for that link - so you reckon a sort of 'tougher' looking shoe (for want of a better word) is the way forward?

Thanks flissy666 ? it finished just above the knee on me, being a short-arse so I think i'll be suitably modest!

thanks for those links too - i like that shrug
