Fashun advice please

SophieM, 2 July, 2009 at 12:34 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 16

For those interested, an update on my last dress drama - first one was too big, second one a bit too big and it was clearly going to make me look hippy, so back it went.

AM now lusting after this

http://www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Dresses/WH134-PNK/Womens-Blush-Poppy-Riviera-Dress.html?orcid=-75#cs5 - I think it's soooo pretty and looks really flattering. But is it too old for me? Too weddingy?

Would this be better, in the pink?

http://www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Dresses/WH132/Womens-Halterneck-Dress.html

I don't like the print as much, but it's not as smart, which is good.

Also, does Boden stuff come up big?

I like the 2nd one and I think the halter neck would be fabulous for the boobage.

I also like the second one better, I think you'd get more long term wear out of it and as you are from what I remember pretty athletic it will give you a nice collar bone shape and as Pooch said a great boob line.

I find their sizes pretty good but their stuff seems quite long but I am only 5' 1

I'm not a huge fan of Boden as I find the cut on me is a bit frumptastic. For that reason, I think the second dress is nicer, and will be more flattering.

What Flump said. I always worry that I look a bit mumsy in Boden clothes, and I usually end up sending them back. My impressions of you from other things you've posted are that you like things on a slightly edgier side, and I don't think Boden fits that category...

Not loving either but the second is better

SophieM have you ever shopped at KJ's Laundry on Marylebone Lane? By the looks of it they'll have some stuff you love.

Ooooh, no, I haven't - will def check it out.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will give the frocks a miss and continue to lust after the lovely yellow jacket in their A/W collection, which isn't frumpy at all.

I am a bit of a Boden Jeckyll and Hyde- I sort of hate their stuff and, despite trying quiet a few things, lots have gone back as too frumpy. However, when you get a good'un, they're really good- excellent quality. I think the frump element depends on fit, and their things tend to come up v big in my experience, so go for a smaller size.

I like both the dresses you're considering. I wouldn't worry at all about them being suitable for older women too- lovely young woman in a floral dress is different prospect from old woman in floral dress. I think they could be a bit weddingy with heels etc but would work well with flip flops etc and be much more casual.

Code TYOU gets you £10 off a £30 spend, with free delivery and (I think) free returns. Not sure whether it will work in the sale though.

Just repeat to yourself "a nice dress is a nice dress" ? I remember a few years ago hearing my husband moaning about the Boden-clad women partners at his firm (all middle aged) and not even knowing what Boden was (I thought he was talking about Bodum, the cafetiere guys ?) Now he has a Boden-clad wife ??

Totally agree. I have no idea what this dress is for Sophie but both of those dresses are way to old and mumsy for how I imagine you.

Do, you'll love the stuff, your wallet won't but you will. Tell Kate (the K) that Abi suggested you have a look, she's almost unnaturally lovely for someone with a figure that good (Kate, not me, I'm not at all lovely).

I bought this dress this morning:

    https://www.joulesclothing.com:443/product/Womens_Dresses/G_BRONTE.htm

I'm really not into florals, but I love yellow, so I tried it on, and love it - looks good with a belt too.

Were the dresses you posted for anything in particular, or just everyday?

Lovely and slightly mad, my favorite personality traits.

Tahiti, that wouldn't suit me at all, sadly.

It's just a general thing really, I don't have any casual summer dresses.

Ooh no Sophster, I think both of those dresses are very mumsy. Have you tried Monsoon? Though some are a bit middle of the road, they have some fab Summer dresses:
