Father And Daughter Dances

meandmrjones81, 15 April, 2015 at 13:25 Posted on Planning 0 18

Is anyone having a father and daughter dance, i hadn't really thought about it as i assumed it was a american thing, but now my mom has mentioned that my dad is really looking forward to it and have i thought about what song we should have.

The only song i can think of that reminds me of my dad is inner circle's bad boys totally inappropriate but reminds me of a fab holiday. So instead i have chosen Louden Wainwright III that's my daughter in the water, my mom was like oh no you can't have that as no one will know it and now im like ahhhh!!!

If you are doing the dance what song are you having i need inspiration or back up regarding mine.

Answers on a post card!!!

I edited a song for someone on here (sorry if you're reading, I forget who it was!) for their F/D dance which was Luther Vandross' Dance With My Father. It is about a father who's passed away, but if you aren't the type to read too much into song lyrics, it might be a good choice.

Inked girl! I'm going to dance with my mum to the same song as my dad has died. We Have included my dad and brother in a lot of the wedding. On the invitations we will put the the late Mr .... and Mrs .... Invite you to the wedding of their daughter. We have prayers being said at the church and we have photos of my dad and my brother to go on the top table. My dad died 13 years ago and brother was only 14 when he died Smiley sad but we are a really close family and I want them included as they died way too young and should be there (well they will be in spirit Smiley smile

I am having 'Because you loved me' - the words are beautiful and quite fitting for a daddy-daughter dance Smiley smile

If your looking for a more upbeat song, my sister had 'My Girl' which was a fun song xx

Is that song not well known? I'd have thought it was.

Regardless, the song doesn't have to be one that everyone knows. It's not necessarily about the song, it's a lovely moment with you and your dad. If that's the song you want, go for it ?

    Hi Smiley smile
It was me that Inked Doll edited "Dance With My Father" for as it's my dad's favourite song
My grandad passed away when I young and he loved Luther Vandross so it reminds us both of him... so in a way it'll be a father daughter dance with my grandad watching
    xx

The Loudon Wainwright one? I've never heard of it. I know who he is, but only cos he's played here (ie at the theatre where I work).

Question: (rather than starting a new thread)

When does the father/daughter dance happen? And who is involved, other than the 2 of us? My h2b vetoed a father daughter dance as he thinks that everyone else joins into the dance after the very start - as in, family couples of him & his mum, his dad & sister, my brother and my mum. He thinks his family would be mortified to "have" to dance together and as it's an American thing he's vetoed it. (he's a grumpy bugger sometimes) Is he right? Or can I just dance with my dad and then everyone joins in as they want to?

Most weddings don't do a father/daughter dance. I'd say maybe one in ten in my experience? But personally speaking as a father I'd love one with my daughter.

Anyway, if there is one then usually it's straight after the first dance so guests wouldn't join until after the father daughter dance.

Personally I'd say speak to your dad about how he feels about it. If he really wants to do it then I'd tell your H2B that it's happening.

I did, I led straight into a dance with my dad after the first dance - we danced to It's for my dad by Nancy Sinatra. I gave him the lyrics in a frame as a little gift afterwards. More happy tears followed!

    Hi,

Still not that common at most weddings but we've seen more recently.

We have seen some before the first dance. Some straight after, or even at some point during the evening (but announced!).

It's always been quite a sweet moment but I guess not for everyone.

    James

My friend was going to have this but worried she'd cry through it all. She played it for me though and it is a lovely song.

I didn't have an official dance with my dad, we just made sure we had a dance at some point in the evening and I can't even remember what we danced to!
