Father daughter dance!

ebarton24, 9 April, 2013 at 15:34 Posted on Planning 0 11

Me again! Do love this place!!

can I ask, is this just an American thing or do we British folk do this too? If so, does anyone have any details? Like does the father sort the music/song or does the daughter or do they do choose it together? Is it meant to be a surprise from the daughter to her father? I do like the idea if have a dance with my dad on my wedding day. Any help will be gratefully received!!

Em xx

As far as I know it's an American thing, or if not its not something I've seen personally at weddings I've been to.

Having said that I fully intend to dance with my gramps as he is giving me away in place of my father. ?

Lovely idea! I guess it's just something we do, but don't feel we need to label it like the yanks do?! Thanks for the reply xx

    Hi Em,

I've seen it done at a few Irish weddings and it's just lovely! We're having a father/ daughter sing song as we both think we're quite musical (dunno if our guests will agree but that's just tough haha!)

Is there a song that you both just love (maybe something from your childhood)?

They're quite popular over here too. We come across them fairly frequently, although they rarely seem to be a surprise to the father. I'd say that given the song choices for father daughter dances the dads may even have input in the chosen song?

I don't think i'll be having one, but I do love them. They're always emotional!

I think I asked this a while ago and the consensus seemed to be it was an American thing, and I've never seen it done at a wedding I've been to. I'm planning to just make sure I have a dance with my Dad, rather than doing anything formal.

Im planning on dancing with my dad to a song called "I loved her first" by an american band called heartland-I just think that dancing with your dad on your wedding day is a lovely idea, so what if its an american thing?

The song is very emotional tho so I will probably cry!

I'm planning on having one of these, but it won't be just me and my dad on the dance floor... it'll just be that I'll dance with my dad to a special song, which all the guests can dance to as well ? - I'm planning on having Changes by Kelly & Ozzy Osbourne or Daddy by Beyonce. Haven't decided yet.

I watched a friend's first dance the other day & the DJ announced "Mr & Mrs would now like all of their guests to join them on the dancefloor", so I think I'm going to ask if the DJ will announce that the song is dedicated to me & my dad and ask guests to join us to dance to it on the dancefloor.

    Hi Em,

We have played for a couple of weddings where the second song was a song for the brides dad.

They have been lively songs though.

It's a great idea to do it straight after the first dance. Most guests are at the dancefloor and the band/dj can announce that the next song is for the bride and her dad!

I wouldn't recommend an overly slow song or a sad one. It's puts everyone on a bit of a downer!

    Have a great day!

    James.
