Father daughter dance??

Miezy83, 11 August, 2014 at 20:10 Posted on Planning 0 19

What are people's thoughts on having a father daughter dance? I really like the idea of it but not sure if guests will get bored watching me and hubby do first dance then me and dad! What do you think...is that the order it's usually done in?

I can't wait to dance with my dad! Sod everyone else if they get bored, me am my dad have been through thick and fin and I'm having my one last dance with him before I go off into married life where another man will be taking care of me even though we have been together 8 years!

Our song is 'I loved her first' and it's so me and my dad!

OH dosnt know but he's having a mother son dance as when she found out about mine and my dad's dance she asked OH if their having a dance and he shot her down. She bought him up on her own and has been such a support to him and us, so we have arranged a song and sent it to the DJ. He will find out when the DJ calls them both up to dance. I think the reason he didn't want to as he hates being the centre of attention when sober but once he's had a drink he's more then happy to be, so he will love it in the end.

Haha it is beautiful! I sent it to my mum an dad and they sobbed like babies, that's when I knew it was perfect!

Iv got 19 days to go ( still feels odd it's ONLY 19 days wahhhh) and I can't listen to any of the important wedding music! God knows what I'll be like on the day, I'm not a public cryer so I'm going to have to pull it together!

I can't wait for my dance with my Dad. He's giving me away, but has dementia, so my two sons will also be with him to give me away. They'll back Dad up if he needs help, & make sure he's ok.

Our dance is a real oldie, one he remembers, & when we chose it, just after midnight on New Years Morning , we danced together to it then. My mum and my darling man were there, & it was just a lovely impromptu moment, one I'll always treasure.

    Xx

I'm sure your dad would love to dance, who wouldn't love to dance with their daughter! Hope you manage to sort it, I won't be missing it for the world!! X

I will be dancing with my Dad. He is my best friend! He had already decided years ago that he wants to dance to 'everything I do' by Bryan Adams, because when I was a toddler, it was my favourite song, and I used to try and sing along to it to my Daddy :-)

Gawd he is a soppy git! Can't wait hehehe!

I'll be dancing with my dad and he's pretty excited about. Heard him talking about it with my mum and then he started listening to songs so he could choose which one to dance with me to. He's even told other family members about it and let them listen to the song.

My mum also wants to have a dance with me. I'm thinking of getting other guests to join in and dance so that they don't get so bored.

I hope one day when my daughter gets married she will want to do a father/daughter dance too. Right now she's a teenager so most days I'm lucky to get a grunt. In fact I just got told off for singing.

I have the song picked out already!

I couldn't choose between my dad and my step dad! I danced with my grandad! One of my favorite memories from the wedding! It was a total surprise for him. He had requested I dance with him at some point but I had specifically chosen 'wonderful tonight' by Eric Clapton because he used to sing it to me when I was little! Here is a couple of pics..

Do it - who cares if your guests get bored (which they won't) - you can't get memories like this everyday!

    Aww, lovely photos, Slou!

My dad died several years ago, but I would definitely definitely want to do a father/daughter dance if he were still here. Bizarrely, at my first wedding, I don't think we did one. No idea why....perhaps no one suggested it, or it wasn't such a popular thing. We are talking 25 years ago, so we didn't have the benefit of Hitched back then to tell us of all these things we should be doing!

But, oh how I would love to dance with him this time round. So I would say DO IT, to anyone wondering whether they should or not. No one will get bored, and memories will be made!

After our first dance, OH and I are planning a Family Dance for us and my kids (aged 19 and 20)....something we will no doubt work on and coreograph in a moment of madness at some point!! (wine may be involved - for me at least!!)

My dad would HATE it. Like me, he doesn't like a lot of attention, and I've never seen him dance. It's no reflection on our relationship, he just wouldn't do it.

We won't plan anything formal, and I won't ask the guests to watch, but we will have a father daughter dance to a specific song which we will ask our band to play.

It's "Only the Good Die Young" which is both of our favourite Billy Joel song - he used to play it in the car when I was little, but it wasn't til I went to Uni and bought 'Piano Man' for myself that we swapped notes and realised we had the same favourite.

It's not a traditional slow song, but it's very us!

The same goes for photography, so many new start-ups seem to be looking at everyone else's work to see what they should themselves be doing with the end result so many looking the same.

Back to the Father Daughter dance, I think that straight after bride and groom dance everyone is itching to get up and boogie and then they have to wait again. So what about leaving it until a little later, depending on your timings a short while later the lights go up and the buffet starts so do the Father Daughter dance as the first dance when the music restarts after the buffet..

That's a good point, Bill...we are having 2 live band "hours" - one before the buffet and one after and I think a lot of weddings do similar. Perhaps any father/daughter dances could kick off the second set much the same as the first dance kicks of the first set. (if that makes sense!)

Our "Family" dance is likely to be something cheesy, like the Grease Megamix or similar, which will automatically get everyone up and dancing, so no need for us to worry about people itching to get on the dancefloor.....we will be dragging them up!!

I didn't want to the the formal father/daughter dance with everyone watching so me and my dad just had a dance at some point in the evening. I have no idea what song was playing ut it was lovely.
