Father of the groom speech?!

helencia, 31 May, 2011 at 21:44 Posted on Planning 0 2

My future mother-in-law has told me that it is tradition in Northern Ireland for the father of the groom to make a speech and that my fiance's dad will therefore speak at our wedding in England. Given that the traditional order for speeches is father of the bride - groom - bestman could anyone please advise me at what point the father of the groom makes his speech? Thanks

My FIL2B is also making a speech - because we begged him to!LOL He will speak after me; first will be Mum who is giving me away and doing the "Father of the Bride" speech, then my OH, then me, FIL2B and then the BM.

Hey I'm from Northern Ireland I didn't know this wasn't common practice in England. Our speeches will be :

    My dad

    hubby to be

    Best man

    Hubby to be's dad

Then Me if I decide to one

We will then open the floor for speeches

    Hope this helps xx

I didn't know it was tradition anywhere, but my FIL2B is doing a speech, they have put money towards the wedding and I think its nice to hear some stories etc about the groom too. I havn't a clue what order we are doing speeches in yet though, maybe My Dad, FIL2B, Groom and then BM.
